Ross, Gover lead Fort Lewis through the opening rounds of San Juan Intercollegiate

MONTROSE, Colo. – Junior transfer Talan Gover and freshman Preston Ross each found themselves in T-12 and one stroke back of the top-10, while the Fort Lewis College men's golf A and B teams positioned themselves in 11^th and T-12 on scores of 572 (+4) and 592 (+24), respectively, in the first two rounds of the San Juan Intercollegiate at The Bridges Golf and Country Club.

Ross, a graduate of Page High School in Page, Ariz., made quite the collegiate debut as he carded back-to-back rounds of 70 (-1) and 69 (-2), with six birdies and only three bogeys, to stand at 139 (-3) for the event. Gover joined Ross in T-12, first opening the tournament with an even par (71) through the 7,017-yard course before posting a second-round 68 (-3). Gover led all Skyhawks with 13 birdies.

Fort Lewis sent its full roster in a mix of two teams. The A team, featuring Gover, Chase Rogers, Mateo Berastegui, Dallin Stephens, and Benjamin Harding, sits in 11^th place among the 13 total teams. The A team bounced back from a round one of 289 (+5) with a round two of 283 (-1), and sits 11 strokes back of the top five.

The Skyhawks B team, comprised of Ross, Johnathon Smith, Connor Burton, and Anderson Helmer, fired scores of 294 (+10) and 298 (+14) to tie with Colorado School of Mines' B team in T-12 and 592 (+24) overall.

Preseason No. 18-ranked Colorado Christian University carries a dominant 15-stroke lead heading into tomorrow's final round, as the Cougars turned in team scores of 268 (-16) and 273 (-11) for a 541 (-27) team total. In addition, a pair of Cougars top the individual leaderboard as Bradley Mulder and Lance Christensen Jr. are locked in T-1 at 132 (-10).

Fort Lewis' A team totaled one eagle, 38 birdies, and 92 pars and played par threes to +20 over par, par fours +9 over par, and par fives -4 under par.

One Round Left
The final round of the San Juan Intercollegiate will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 22.
