Bangham Jr. scores career-high, Grizzlies hand (RV) Skyhawks first RMAC loss of 2025-26

Fort Lewis sets program record with 12-straight wins to open RMAC play

ALAMOSA, Colo. – A career-high 24-point performance from Donald Bangham, Jr., 20 steals, and a late scoring run for the Skyhawks were not enough to slow down the league's best home team this season as Fort Lewis was handed its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference loss of the season, 95-93, by Adams State University on Thursday night in Plachy Hall.

In the 137th meeting between the two Route 160 rivals, it was the Grizzlies who improved to 15-7 overall and 9-5 in RMAC play, winning their fifth-straight while improving to 11-1 at home on the strength of 47.1 percent (33-70) shooting from the field, a quality 84 percent (21-25) night at the free-throw line, and winning off the glass with a 46-38 edge in rebounding.

Four Grizzlies rose to the occasion in front of the home crowd, with Dillan Baker matching Bangham Jr. with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting with a 3-of-9 mark from deep and a 5-of-5 night at the line while adding eight rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Luke Williams added 23 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals, and Wyatt Helming had a monster 21-point, 14-rebound double-double to go alongside four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Jarmell Johnson was the fourth and final Grizzly in double-figures with 18 points.

Bangham Jr. had a career night despite the loss, setting his new Division II-best scoring mark with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting to lead Fort Lewis (14-6, 12-1 RMAC) to 42.4 percent (36-85) shooting as a unit. Bangham Jr. also pulled down seven rebounds and had four assists. The Skyhawks fired off at 31.8 percent (7-22) from deep, and converted at 73.7 percent (14-19) at the line.

Fort Lewis stuck to its guns, forcing 25 total turnovers for a combined 20 steals, 36 points off turnovers, 25 second-chance points, and 58 points in the paint to nearly overcome a trio of second-half 13-point leads for Adams State. Chuol Deng posted a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double of his own, his fifth of the year, while Stewart Erhart finished second on the squad in scoring with 18 points, six steals, six assists, and four rebounds. Jaxon Smith also had 13 points, two assists, and two steals. Cassius Carmichael had seven points, five steals, two assists, and two rebounds before fouling out with just over five minutes left to play.
