Moores, Gibby put Skyhawks within striking distance after round one in Litchfield Park

3/9/2026 7:24:00 PM

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Freshman Kathryn Moores and sophomore Peyton Gibby each fired off a 77 (+5) to lift the Fort Lewis women's golf team into sixth-place and 11 strokes back from the lead after round one of the Southwest Minnesota State University Spring Invitational over in the desert on Wigwam Golf Resort's Red Course.

The Skyhawks stand at 315 (+27) overall after their first test on the 6,852-yard, par 72 and 72.0-rated Red Course. Fort Lewis trails first-place Western New Mexico University by 11 strokes after an opening 304 (+16) from the Mustangs. However, it's a tight race from second through sixth, with Colorado Mesa University in second on a 307 (+19), Metropolitan State University of Denver in third with a 308 (+20), Concordia University, St. Paul in fourth on a 309 (+21), and Chadron State College fifth with a 309 (+23).

Western New Mexico's Falyn Lackey, MSU Denver's Izabella Pesicka, and Concordia St. Paul's Addi Wood sit in a three-way tie for first-place as individuals with the pack carding a one-over-par 73. Gibby and Moores sit a narrow four strokes back in a tie for 11th, combining for 19 pars and three birdies, two of which were scored by Moores.

Ellie White posted eight pars and a pair of birdies herself to sit one stroke back in 18th with a score of 78 (+6), but the freshman is competing as an unattached individual and cannot contribute to the team's score. Dimery Plewe is the next closest Skyhawk in a tie for 24th, making a team-high three birdies to pair with seven pars for an 80 (+8). Sarah Grenemyer, also competing as an unattached individual, joins Plewe in a tie for 24th with a pair of birdies and eight pars en route to her 80 (+8).

Juniors Isabel Bustillos and Annika Gutierrez trail Plewe by one stroke, deadlocked for a tie for 30th with identical cards of 81 (+9). Both players scored one birdie, but Gutierrez edged Bustillos with eight pars to seven.
