Skyhawks spring campaign underway in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Calif. – Fort Lewis men's golf got its 2025-26 spring season underway on Monday afternoon with the first two rounds of the three-round Coyote Classic over at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif. The Skyhawks posted a team score of 599 (+23) to sit in eighth-place heading into tomorrow's final round.
 
Fort Lewis found itself middle of the pack after turning in a 298 (+10) in round one, paced by Jake Chesler's three-under-par 69 and a quartet of birdies. True freshman Chase Rogers and regional veteran Traejan Andrews went on to lead the team through round two, both carding a 76 (+4) with Andrews leading Rogers four birdies to three. As a unit, however, the Skyhawks dropped three strokes through round two, scoring a 301 (+13) to sit at 599 (+23) overall heading into tomorrow's final round.
 
Chesler, in T-15th, is the lone Skyhawk inside of the top 25 after rounds one and two, with the senior sitting at 145 (+1) overall and one stroke away from cracking into the top 10. Traejan Andrews finds himself in T-36th after cutting down one stroke from rounds one to two, residing at 149 (+5) overall. Rogers trails closely behind in sole possession of 40th on a 150 (+6). Ian Henderson and Jordan Jennings also stand within two strokes of one another, tying for 58th and 63rd on scorecards of 155 (+11) and 156 (+13), respectively.
 
The Skyhawks trail seventh-place Menlo College's 596 (+20) by three strokes, sixth-place Northwest Nazarene University's 594 (+18) by five strokes, and fifth-place California State University Stanislaus' 583 (+7) by 16 strokes. The top four teams in the tournament all finished below par (576) for the evening.  
 
California State University San Bernardino, which stands as the team medalist leaders after the first 36 holes around the 7,003-yard, par 72 course, carries a three-stroke lead into tomorrow with a score of 563 (-13). The Coyote's own Kamron Hopson sits atop the individual leaderboard, shooting a tournament-best 65 (-7) in his second round to hold a three-stroke lead at 134 (-10) overall.
