Andrews, Rogers claim top 25 finishes at Coyote Classic

BEAUMONT, Calif. – Powered by a T-17 finish from redshirt junior Traejan Andrews and a T-23 finish from freshman Chase Rogers, the Fort Lewis Skyhawks men's golf team captured seventh-place as a team at the Coyote Classic on an overall team score of 895 (+31).
 
Fort Lewis fired off a team-best 296 (+8) in its final round through the 7,003-yard, par 72 course, led by a pair of two-under-par 70s from Andrews and Rogers, with Rogers going below par for the first time in his career. Both players scored five birdies in round three. Andrew's mark vaulted him up 18 spots on the leaderboard to a team-best T-18 on a 219 (+3), with Rogers hot on his heels in T-20 with a 220 (+4).
 
As a unit, the Skyhawks climbed just one spot on the leaderboard, edging eighth-place Menlo College (898, +34) by three strokes. Sixth-place Northwest Nazarene University held off the Skyhawks on an 890 (+26). California State University San Bernardino cleared the field for team medalist honors, posting an 843 (-21) to win comfortably by 19 strokes. The Coyote's own Kamron Hopson was unstoppable, carding a 66 (-6) today to win individual honors with a seven-stroke lead on a 200 (-16).
 
Fort Lewis capped the tournament with average scores of 3.38 on par threes, 4.27 on par fours, and 4.78 on par fives. The Skyhawks also totaled the fourth-most birdies of any team with 50.
 
Jake Chesler closed out the tournament with a 78 (+6), including four birdies and five pars, to capture a T-32 finish with a 223 (+7) overall. Ian Henderson rounded out Fort Lewis' scoring team in T-60, with the senior carding a 78 (+6) in round three for a final score of 233 (+17). Henderson posted an eagle on hole 16's 523-yard par five, matching Andrews, who eagled the hole five 581-yard par five in round one, for the only Skyhawks eagles in the tournament. Jordan Jennings closed out the group in T-66 with a 235 (+19) total.
