Erhart’s career day powers Skyhawks past Grizzlies into RMAC Semifinals

Fort Lewis advances to fourth-straight RMAC Tournament Semifinal

DURANGO, Colo. – There's just something special about the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals and Stewart Erhart.

The redshirt sophomore out of West Valley High School and Tanana, Alaska, went off with a trio of career-highs, including 32 points on 14-of-22 shooting (63.6 percent), seven of Fort Lewis' 22 steals, and six of the Skyhawks 15 assists to power the Fort Lewis men's basketball team (18-10, 15-5 RMAC) to its fourth-straight appearance in the RMAC Tournament semifinals on a thrilling 88-72 victory over Adams State University (18-11, 12-8 RMAC). Last season, it was Erhart's then-career-high 23 points on the road that lifted the Skyhawks past Colorado Mesa University, 89-65.

Fort Lewis shot an efficient 48.6 percent (36-74) from the field to Adams State's 43.3 percent (26-60), with the Grizzlies holding the edge in made three-pointers, 7-4. The Skyhawks, however, wreaked havoc with their tempo, forcing 26 turnovers out of the Grizzlies for a crushing 37 points off turnovers while also winning off the glass, 43 rebounds to ASU's 35. Both sides went to the free-throw line 17 times, with the Grizzlies knocking down 13 attempts to Fort Lewis' 11.

Cassius Carmichael poured in 13 points, a team-high eight boards, five steals, and a block, while Donald Bangham, Jr. turned in 10 points to round out the Skyhawks in double-figures. Every Fort Lewis player to touch the floor scored at least three points with at least two rebounds. The Skyhawks, as they did in their first win over the Grizzlies, dominated the low-post with 56 points in the paint.

Adams State led early, 11-5, with 15:56 left to play, but Fort Lewis quickly responded, running out to a pair of 20-point leads before heading into the locker room with a 12-point edge. With the Skyhawks stalling-out in the middle of the second half, the Grizzlies cut the deficit to five, 62-57, as Luke Williams powered through the lane for two. However, the ASU excitement was short-lived, with FLC putting up 10 unanswered points to pull away for the remainder of the night.

Adams State saw four Grizzlies reach double-figures, with the bench supplying just five points. Dillan Baker, who led ASU to its 95-93 win over Fort Lewis back on Feb. 5, paced his squad once again, grabbing 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting with four boards, four assists, and a steal. Luke Williams scored 18 points, Wyatt Helming 10 points, and Jarmell Johnson another 17 points alongside team-highs in rebounds with eight and steals with five.
