(RV) Skyhawks to host Hilltoppers in home opener, face No. 14 Tigers in Alamosa

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis men's soccer team (2-0) will make its 2026 home debut on Dirks Field on Thursday Sept. 3, against St. Edward's University (1-0-1) before the Skyhawks head east for Alamosa, Colo., to challenged No. 14-ranked Fort Hays State University (1-1) in a neutral site match at the ASU Lacrosse & Soccer Field on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Fans attending Thursday's match in Durango are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance through HomeTown Ticketing. Live statistics will also be available in addition to a traditional broadcast on the RMAC Network. Sunday's match will be streamed on the RMAC Network, and live statistics will be available courtesy of Adams State Athletics.
 
Points Galore
Offense was at the forefront of Fort Lewis' success on opening weekend as the Skyhawks racked up nine goals and seven assists for 25 total points – the third-most in Division II thus far. Six different Skyhawks have found the back of the net, including sophomore forward Simão Agostino, sophomore midfielder Francisco Pinto, junior midfielder William Bretvik, junior midfielder Fabrizio Aguilera, freshman forward Noah Bouren, and freshman defenseman Iver Høihjelle.
 
The Skyhawks have assisted on all but one possible goal on the pitch, paced by 2025 Honorable Mention All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference midfielders Pinto and Raul Baptista Filipe, who each have two thus far. Bretvik, sophomore defenseman Anis Harrar and junior defender Alexandros Papakonstantinou have all earned assists as well.  
 
Conference Spotlight, National Recognition
Agostinho, tied for the most goals and total points across DII on opening weekend, was tabbed as the RMAC Men's Soccer Week One Offensive Player of the Week, marking the Skyhawks' first weekly award of 2026. Agostinho also ranks third nationally in shots on goal per game (3.0), 14th in total shots per game (4.0), and 38th in shot accuracy (75 percent).
 
With two quality wins over in-region opponents from the Lone Star Conference, a 2-1 victory over Lubbock Christian University (1-1) and a 7-0 rout of West Texas A&M University (1-1), the Skyhawks have received votes on the first regular-season addition of the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. FLC is one of two teams receiving votes and joins No. 12-ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs (2-0) and No. 20-ranked Regis University (1-0) as the three representatives from the RMAC on the poll.
 
A look at the Hilltoppers
St. Edward's rides into Thursday's match with a 1-0-1 record, hot off a 3-0 victory on the road at previously No. 20-ranked California State University Dominguez Hills (1-1). The Hilltoppers fought to a 1-1 draw with Texas A&M International University (1-0-1) in its season opener at home in Austin, Texas. As a unit, SEU has scored four goals on 18 total shots, nine on-goal, and six corner kicks, and has allowed one goal on 23 shots, seven on-goal, and 13 corners.
 
Last year, the Skyhawks and Hilltoppers battled to a 3-3 draw in Austin, with SEU fighting back and equalizing in the 86th minute. Yohann Fila posted a brace for Fort Lewis, and St. Edward's Filip Adamski answered with a brace of his own, including the tying goal late in the match. Shunjie Watanbe scored well, netting the second goal of the match for SEU a 2-1 lead at the time. Fort Lewis leads St. Edward's 8-5-3 all-time, but the Hilltoppers carry a 2-1-1 advantage in Durango, Colo., on Dirks Field.
 
Senior defenseman Timmy Hollenbeck was the Lone Star Conference Week One Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, following 156 minutes on the pitch where he helped St. Edward's surrender just one goal across 23 shots, seven on-goal, and go unbeaten through the opening weekend. Behind Hollenbeck, senior goalkeeper Kaleo Perez-Francis has made six saves against 23 shots faced for an 85.7 percent save percentage.
 
Adamski is the lead returner for the Hilltoppers, as the Poland native was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-South Central Region Second Team, the LSC Freshman of the Year, and the All-LSC First Team a year ago. Watanabe returns as well, having been named to the All-LSC Third Team last year and All-LSC Second Team in 2024. Adamanski scored six goals and made one assist for 13 points last year, and Watanabe boasts seven goals and four assists for 18 points across his first three years, but neither has tallied a point thus far.
 
First meeting with the Tigers
Fort Lewis and Fort Hays State will meet for the first time on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers head into Sunday's match following a showdown with William Jewell College (0-1) tonight, Sept. 2, at home in Hays, Kan. So far in 2026, the Tigers have defeated No. 13-ranked Rockhurst University (1-1) 4-1 and fallen 1-0 to now No. 2-ranked Regis.
 
Last season, the Tigers flat-out dominated, posting a 20-1-3 overall record and going unbeaten until eventually falling 1-0 to Rollins College (14-5-5) in the NCAA national semifinal. Sweeping the Great American Conference/Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season and tournament titles, as well as winning Super Region 3, Fort Hays State outscored opponents 68-11 overall and posted 64 assists while shutting out opponents 16 times in 24 matches.
 
The toughest challenge for the Skyhawks lies in sophomore goalkeeper Payton Roehrich, who, as a true freshman last year, was a D2CCA Second-Team All-American and United Soccer Coaches Third-Team All-American, boasting nine goals against (0.43 goals-against average) and 54 saves (85.7 percent save percentage) against 156 shots faced for the year. Aiding Roehrich is junior defender Oliver Wright, who scored five goals a season ago en route to D2CCA All-Central Region Second-Team and All-GAC/MIAA Honorable Mention honors.
 
Up front on offense, the Tigers return sophomore midfielder Juan Linares, who scored eight goals and added six assists for 22 points in 2025. Linares was named to the D2CCA All-Central Region First-Team and All-GAC/MIAA Second-Team.  This season, Linares and junior forward Francisco Degiorgi have each scored a goal and made an assist thus far, with freshman Filippo Moncada and junior Len Valkema each adding a goal as well.
 
Looking Ahead
Fort Lewis will head for Nampa, Idaho, next week for a single match at Northwest Nazarene University (0-0-2). The match is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at the NNU Soccer & Lax Field.
