DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis men's soccer's Raul Baptista Filipe and Noam Maggartou were each recognized for their efforts in lifting the Skyhawks to a 2-0 start to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play last week, claiming the league's Week Five Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week titles, respectively.

Fort Lewis (5-2-2, 2-0 RMAC) kicked off conference action with a 3-0 shutout of Colorado Christian University (2-4-4, 1-1 RMAC) last Friday, Sept. 25, and followed it up with a pivotal 2-1 victory over Metropolitan State University of Denver (4-2-3, 1-1 RMAC) on Sunday, Sept. 27, as the Roadrunners had captured votes on last week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. The win also snapped MSUD's seven-match unbeaten streak.

A Freshman and native of Mulhouse, France, Maggartou snags his first conference weekly award through nine career matches. The six-foot-two defenseman helped Fort Lewis keep its second clean sheet of the year after holding the Cougars to just four shots on goal despite 17 shots in total and six corner kicks.

On Sunday afternoon, Maggartou helped limit the Roadrunners' lethal offense to a mere six shots total, two shots on goal, and no corners. At the same time, Maggartou helped kickstart the scoring with his first collegiate assist on a pass from his own backline nearly 50 yards forward through the MSUD backline, scored by Baptista Filipe. In addition, Maggartou and the Skyhawks did not concede a single shot attempt by the Roadrunners across the final 10 minutes and 19 seconds of action, despite playing a man down after a second caution dismissed the eleventh Skyhawk from the pitch. Maggartou has played 789 of the available 810 minutes this year.

Baptista Filipe, a 2025 Honorable Mention All-RMAC midfielder and second-year Skyhawk from Santa Maria de Feira, Portugal, also grabbed his first RMAC weekly accolade after putting up four points on the weekend with a hand in goals in both matches. On Friday morning against Colorado Christian, Baptista Filipe grabbed an assist on the third goal of the match, kick-starting the attack in transition with short service to Simão Agostinho in the area, who played across to William Bretvik for the punch-in goal.

Later against the Roadrunners, Baptista Filipe secured Fort Lewis a dream start, taking cross-pitch service from Maggartou through three defenders on the backline and using just one touch before rifling a volley from the top of the penalty area past the diving keeper in the back-left corner of the net in just the fourth minute. Baptista Filipe assisted once more moments later in the seventh minute, sending service into the area from nearly 45 yards out on the far touchline to an awaiting Francisco Pinto, who chipped the goalkeeper for the game-winner. Baptista Filipe has totaled three goals and four assists for 10 points this year, and ranks T-4 in assists, sixth in points, and T-6 in shots on goal (11) across the RMAC.

Fort Lewis continues conference play at home on Dirks Field this week, first hosting Westminster University (2-4-4, 0-1-1 RMAC) for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 2, before welcoming Colorado Mesa University (3-1-5, 1-0-1 RMAC) for a rematch on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.
