2014 Skyhawks Volleyball Game Day Notes - Oct. 6, 2014After playing five straight matches on the road, the Skyhawks will return home to play five of their next six at home.Â
Fort Lewis will play host to New Mexico Highlands Friday night and Western New Mexico on Saturday. Both matches will start at 7 p.m. All three teams are tied for 10th place in the league standings with a 2-6 record.
Fort Lewis is 1-2 at home this season, charting their lone home win against Black Hills State.
The Skyhawks won their second conference match of the season Friday at Western State, winning the match in five sets.
Senior setter Heather Danny made her first appearance in the lineup since suffering a leg injury the opening weekend of the season.Â
The Skyhawks are 2-4 in three set matches, 1-5 in four set matches, and 2-2 in five set matches.
Ashley Wells leads the Skyhawks offense with 2.76 kills per set and 3.03 points per set. She also ranks second on the team in digs with 3.07 digs per set.
Danny is averaging 6.12 assists per set while Ciara Krening owns a team high 276 assists. Krening has shared setting duties in a 6-2 offense with Kennedy Clark and Danny.
Shelby Lehman has 51 blocks to date, an average of 0.86 blocks per set. Nine of them are solo blocks. She ranks 10th in the league in blocks.
Sophomore libero Ally Dell'Amico leads the team in digs (4.87 per set) and reception attempts (413). Dell'Amico's 302 digs are the third most in the RMAC.
Fort Lewis is seventh in the league in blocks with 125 (2.02 blocks per set) and seventh in service aces with 75 (1.21 per set). Lindley Gallegos is third in the conference in aces with 23 (0.40 aces per set).
The Skyhawks have won the last three matches against New Mexico Highlands and own a 44-32 series lead, including a 19-14 advantage when facing the Cowgirls at home.
NMHU is 1-4 on the road this year. Alicia Moreno (2.73 kills per set, .208 hitting percentage) and Andrea Nunez (2.47 kills per set, .103 hitting percentage) lead the Cowgirls offense.Â
Setting up the offense is Shayli Schulz with 4.2 assists per set.
Jessica Piper leads the Cowgirls defense, digging up 3.93 digs per set.
Saturday's opponent, Western New Mexico, has won 26 of 47 meetings between the two teams and have won the last three match ups. Both teams have won 11 and lost 11 in Whalen Gymnasium.
The Mustangs front line is led by Leeta Grap and Heather Verrill. Grap has a team high 2.42 kills per set while Verrill has 1.97 kills per set and a .295 hitting percentage while also blocking a team high 1.07 blocks per set.
Kylie Fraga leads the assists department for WNMU with 333 assists (5.74 assists per set).Â
Three Mustangs lead the Skyhawks back row with Barabra Soranzo notching 2.95 digs per set, Grap with 2.77 digs/set and Kyle Fraga with 1.83 digs per set.
