Skyhawks Men's Soccer Game Day Notes - Sept. 16, 2014Up NextFort Lewis will open the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference home season on Wednesday at Adams State. The Grizzlies enter the game with a 1-2 record and have lost their last two games to Texas-Permian Basin and West Texas A&M.
The Grizzlies, who charted their first ever win over the Skyhawks last year on Dirks Field, have been out-scored 7-2 but have out-shot their opponents, 46-27.
Ethan Jackson leads the team in points with four, having scored both goals for ASU. He also has a team high 11 shots. Andrew Ireland has seen all but 28 minutes in goal for the Grizzlies. He has a 2.51 goals against average after allowing six goals (eight saves) in 215 minutes between the posts.
Fort Lewis in 8-1-0 all-time against the Grizzlies, and 4-0-0 at ASU. FLC is on a one-game winning streak against ASU.
Colorado Christian started their season with two wins against Dallas Baptist and MSU Billings before falling to San Francisco State this past Sunday. The Cougars will open the RMAC season at home on Friday against ASU.
All three goals scored this season have come at the foot of three different Cougars. Calvin Beck leads CCU with two assists and five shots. Protecting the goal is Brandon Eide and Zach Ashland who have nearly played identical minutes. They have combined to make 18 saves and allow four goals for a goals against average of 1.28.
Fort Lewis has won 40 of the 47 meetings between the Cougars and tied twice. The Skyhawks are 20-2-2 when playing Colorado Christian on their home turf.
Last Time Out The Skyhawks wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule last weekend in Laredo, Texas. Playing on a neutral site surface on Friday against St. Mary's University, the Skyhawks took an early 1-0 lead from
Yannis Becker's first goal of the season, but SMU came back to score two unanswered goals for the win, 2-1.
On Sunday against No. 6 Texas A&M-International, FLC jumped to a 3-0 lead before the Dust Devils put two in the back of the net.
Tamino Kroeger added an insurance goal to seal the win, 4-2.
