FLC hosts Western State in annual #FLCHomecoming Game

Fort Lewis College and Colorado School of Mines combined for 1,131 yards and 80 points last Saturday in a 45-35 setback for the Skyhawks. 

For the fourth straight game, FLC has either had the lead going into the fourth quarter, or led during the fourth quarter.  

FLC averaged nearly 10 yards per play.  The Skyhawks ran 57 plays for 566 yards, an average of 9.9 yards per play (season high).  Mines finished with 565 yards on 82 plays.  The Skyhawks 7.7 yards per rush also marked a season high.

The Orediggers, who have the top offense in the league, scored on all five first half drives (four touchdowns, field goal).

Quarterback Bo Coleman and wide receiver Jordan Gillen connected for three touchdowns. 

Coleman finished the game with season highs in completions (13), passing yards (273) and touchdown passes (four).

Drake Griffin ran for a career high 160 yards on Saturday, the most by any FLC running back this season.  His 68-yard touchdown run is also the longest carry by anyone on the team.

Arealous Hughes caught his first career touchdown pass after catching a 13-yard touchdown pass from Coleman.

Austin Nelson led the defensive unit with a career high 15 tackles (three solo) and a quarterback hurry.  Andrew Ike added 14 tackles, one pass breakup and two quarterback hurries.  The 15 tackles are the most by any Skyhawk this season.

Fort Lewis College will play host to Western State Colorado University this Saturday at 12 p.m. in the annual Homecoming Game.

The Skyhawks and Mountaineers are ranked close together in several RMAC statistical categories: The Skyhawks are fifth in the league in total offense with 434.0 yards (WSCU is fourth - 443.2 yards); FLC is second in total defense with 372.2 yards (WSCU is third- 382.2); FLC is second in rushing offense with 262.0 yards (WSCU is first with 277.2 yards) FLC is second in rushing defense with 112.0 yards (WSCU is third-148.0 yards); and FLC is 10th in passing offense with 172.0 yards (WSCU is 11th-166.0 yards).

The Skyhawks continue to lead the league in time of possession with a five second margin over New Mexico Highlands (34:32).

After ranking ninth in NCAA Division II in turnover margin last season (+13), the Skyhawks are ranked 165 out of 169 through the first five games (-9).

The tandem of Drake Griffith and PJ Hall have combined for 201.4 rushing yards per game.  Griffith is ranked third in the league with 107.8 yards per game, and Hall is fourth with 93.6 yards per game.

Quarterback Bo Coleman leads all quarterbacks with a 189.2 passing efficiency.  He has completed 37-of-61 passes for 675 yards (four interceptions) and nine touchdowns.  His 185.2 yards of total offense is the seventh most in the RMAC.

Jordan Gillen is tied for sixth in the RMAC in scoring (touchdowns).  Gillen has 30 points after catching five touchdown passes.

Linebacker Andrew Ike has the fourth most tackles by any player in the league.  Ike is averaging 9.0 tackles per game.  Eighteen of his 45 tackles have been solo stops.

Shane Nelson has recorded 37 tackles through five games.  His 7.4 tackles per game are the 14th most in the league.

Western State is led by Austin Ekeler who leads Division II in rushing yards (199.0) and all-purpose yards (226.4).
