Skyhawks Comeback Falls Short

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALAMOSA, Colo. – March 25, 2017 – Down eight runs after three innings (8-0), the Fort Lewis College softball team stormed back to score seven runs in the final four innings but fell one run short of defeating Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo. Saturday afternoon, 8-7.  The Skyhawks dropped the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in five innings, 9-1.
 
In the top of the fourth inning of game two with two outs and Lauren Caldwell on first base, Kassidy Buis hit a triple to bring in Caldwell for the Skyhawks first run of the game.
 
In the ensuing inning, Angelique Elemen doubled to bring in Adriana Rosthenhausler who reached base on an error.  Tristen Gilbert added two more runs with her fourth homerun of the season to bring FLC within four runs, 8-4.
 
Rosthenhausler scored her second run of the game in the sixth inning.  After hitting her team-leading ninth double of the season, Allison Young drove her home with a double to left field.
 
In the final inning of the game, Caldwell was the first Skyhawk to reach base after being hit by a pitch.  Cassie Sloan entered the game for FLC as a pinch runner for Caldwell.  With two outs and the bases loaded, Rosthenhausler drew a walk to score Sloan.  Down 8-6, Tehenia Telliano reached base on an error that scored Buis to bring FLC within one run, but a ground out sealed the win for ASU.
 
FLC stranded 11 runners in the game.  Five of the Skyhawks nine hits were extra base hits.
 
Rosthenhausler finished with two hits and two runs scored.  Gilbert went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored.
 
In the series-opener, the Skyhawks lone run came in the second inning.  Sloan pinch ran for Telliano who reached base on a single to right center. After Sloan stole second base, Rosthenhausler tripled to left field that scored Sloan.
 
The Skyhawks were held to five hits and left eight on base.
 
Both teams will be back in action Sunday morning for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
