Women’s Soccer Set to Host #24 UCCS, MSU Denver at Dirks Field

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team will look forward to being back at Dirks Field this Friday and Sunday after traveling to Denver and playing a pair of close games against #5 Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian.

FLC (4-4-1, 3-2 RMAC) will open with #24 UC Colorado Springs this Friday at 1 p.m. They will close the weekend on Sunday at noon against MSU Denver.

The Skyhawks kept it close in both games, even tying things up in the first half against the Orediggers on a Britney Johnson goal. Eventually Colorado Mines tallied a goal before halftime and added another in the second half for a 3-1 victory. It was only the fourth goal the Orediggers have allowed all season. Against Colorado Christian, the Cougars tallied a goal midway through the first half and were able to hold off the Skyhawks for the 1-0 victory.

FLC has been strong at home this season with a 4-1 mark. The only loss was a 1-0 marker to West Texas A&M, who is now ranked in the top-25. The defense has dominated at home with FLC outscoring opponents 9-2, with the last three games against Black Hills State, Regis and Adams State all being shutouts.

On the season, FLC has scored 12 goals and allowed 12, firing 107 shots to 125 for opponents, with 48 on goal to 53 for the opposition. Renee Terrell and Emma Patron lead the team with six points, as Terrell has three goals and Patron has four assists, to go along with a goal. Courtney Wamboldt, Britney Johnson, Katie Smith and Dylan Barker all have four points. Behind Terrell's team-high three goals, Johnson, Smith and Barker have two goals apiece. Smith has logged the most time on the field this year at 830 minutes, while Megan Trent adds 801 and Charlie Kaiser at 758. In the net, Britt Blomso has started eight games, logging 629 minutes with a 1.29 goals against average, 26 saves and a .743 save percentage. Kaylee Mickens has seen action in four games, starting this past Sunday in Lakewood. She has a 1.35 goals against average, 15 saves and a .833 save percentage. She recorded 12 saves against Colorado School of Mines.

FLC ranks in the top-seven in the RMAC in several categories including seventh in assists per game (1.11), seventh in goals against average (1.302), seventh in points per game (3.78), fifth in shutout percentage (.333), seventh in total assists (10) and seventh in win-loss percentage (.500). Individually, Patron is fourth in the RMAC and 76th nationally in assists per game (0.44), Blomso is seventh in the RMAC in goals against average (1.288), Patron is fourth in the RMAC and 60th nationally in total assists (4), Wamboldt is 11th in the RMAC in that same category with two and Blomso is 11th in total saves (26).

First will be a matchup with UCCS on Friday. The Mountain Lions come in ranked 24th in the nation. Last year, the teams met in Durango and UCCS took the 2-1 victory. Valerie Maestas had the goal for the Skyhawks, as they held a 11-10 shot advantage. The year before in Colorado Springs, FLC rolled to a 6-2 victory. Current Skyhawk Terrell posted a goal in that game.

The Mountain Lions are 8-1-1 overall and 6-0 in the RMAC. They hold a 3-1 record in road contests. This past weekend, they traveled to Utah and defeated both Westminster (1-0) and Dixie State (2-1). They've scored 27 goals and allowed just five. UCCS has 177 shots to 80 for opponents, with 90 on goal to 34 for the opposition. Individually, Tarah Patterson has 17 points, recording six goals and five assists. Tori Maydew adds 12 points with six goals and Anna Gregg has 10 points with four goals and two assists. Kaylyn Smith has logged 900 minutes, followed by Aleesa Muir at 792 minutes and Katie Puchino at 775. In net, Smith has started 10 games, tallying a 0.50 goals against average, 29 saves and a .853 save percentage.

To close the weekend, FLC will face MSU Denver. The Roadrunners were ranked at one point this season. Last year, MSU Denver won a close 1-0 game in Durango. FLC held a 13-8 shot advantage, with Alicia Sanchez firing five. It was also a 1-0 result in 2016 with the Roadrunners taking that game in Denver. FLC held a 10-8 shot advantage in that contest. Back in 2015, the teams tied 1-1 in Durango.

MSU Denver is 6-3-1 overall and 4-2 in RMAC play. They hold a 1-3-1 record away from home. This past weekend, they traveled to Utah and lost to both Dixie State (1-0) and Westminster (3-1). Prior to that, the Roadrunners had posted four straight victories at home, all shutouts.

As a team, they have scored 23 goals and allowed eight. While taking 140 shots, to 111 for opponents, with 74 on goal to 58 for the opposition. Reigna Banks leads the team with 18 points, scoring nine goals. Gabriella Gamboa adds 12 points, with five goals and two assists. Paloma Teran adds two goals. Makenna Brassard and Erica Torres have logged 920 minutes. In net, Torres has played in all 10 games, posting a 0.78 goals against average, 49 saves and a .860 save percentage. She has five shutouts this season.
