Volleyball to Hold Multiple Camps in April, May and July

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team will be hosting multiple camps including ID Camp, Individual Skills Camp, Little Spiker's Clinic, Team Camp and the Grass Bash Tournament starting in April, with the other camps taking place in May and July on the campus of Fort Lewis College.

The first camp will take place on April 5 and will be an ID Camp. The Fort Lewis College ID Camp provides an atmosphere for the serious volleyball player with aspirations of playing at the collegiate level. The coaches will provide collegiate training sessions to improve skill through specific instruction and live game action. This is an excellent way to identify future Skyhawk athletes. The Grass Bash Tournament will take place May 25, with an entry deadline of May 19. The Fort Lewis College volleyball team will be holding a Grass Bash Tournament, formally known as the Fun in the Sun Tournament May 25. It will be a doubles tournament with divisions for men's (high and low), women's (high and low), co-ed and high school. If you don't have a partner to play with, sign up as a free agent and find a partner. Cost will be $25 per participant or $50 per team, with check-in taking place at 8 a.m. for high school division and then 8:30 a.m. for the women's high and low, men's high and low and co-ed divisions. Three camps will take place in July including the Individual Skills Camp that will run from July 15-18. This 4 day camp is designed for individuals who want to develop and strengthen all the fundamental skills of the game. In addition, strategies and team concepts will be taught through competitive and fun team drills. Players will be grouped on an individual set of skills. Campers should come dressed to play and bring their own kneepads, appropriate practice clothing and training shoes. Cost is $80/session, $300 for all four sessions, $450 for residential campers and sessions. Open to grades 7-12, check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the camp will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with a lunch break from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. (except 7/18). Monday will have passing, setting and serving, Tuesday will have review and ball control, strategy and wash drills, Wednesday will have review and ball control, strategy and wash drills and then Thursday will have review and live play (9 a.m. until 12 p.m.). The Little Spiker's Clinic will also run from July 15-18 and is open to grades 1-6. This four-evening introductory clinic is for novice players just learning the game and working to develop fundamental skills. Campers should come dressed to play and bring their own kneepads, appropriate practice clothing and training shoes. The Team Camp will take place July 19-20 as this two-day tournament is a chance for local high school teams to play in a competitive environment and on the Fort Lewis College Campus. In the past, we have had teams for Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. We have been hosts to State Champions and many state qualifying teams!
