Women’s Basketball to Host Adams State for Senior Night This Friday

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will honor seniors Alyssa Yocky and MorningRose Tobey this Friday night when the Skyhawks host Adams State starting at 5:30 p.m. inside Whalen Gym.

Below is information on both seniors.

MorningRose Tobey arrived at Fort Lewis for her final season after playing the previous three seasons at Division I the University of Nevada. The Reno, Nevada native compiled 241 points, tallied 43 steals, sent back 11 blocks, dished out 66 assists, grabbed 111 rebounds, sunk 48 free throws, 33 three-pointers and 80 field goals in 96 games played in her career.

This season with the Skyhawks Tobey has connected on 16 field goals, six three-pointers and 18 free throws for 56 points, while grabbing 23 rebounds, 13 assists, four blocks and 11 steals in 20 games. She went for a season-high 11 points against the University of the Southwest, also added three made field goals in that game and four free throws. She grabbed four rebounds against Western Colorado, had two assists in a game three times, had a block in four games and grabbed two steals in a game four different times.

Alyssa Yocky from La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M., played her entire collegiate career at Fort Lewis College as she will play in her 100th career game tonight, including her 64th start and ranks high in several program categories as she recently eclipsed 900 career points and is now at 930, which leaves her tied for 17th in program history. Yocky is also at 121 career steals, 12 from breaking into the top-20 and with her 44 blocked shots, she is tied for 16th in program history and is just six away from landing in the top-15. Her 747 rebounds are third in program history. Yocky's 328 career field goals is 21st in program history and she is just two away from landing in the top-20. Her 55 three-pointers is currently 21st in program history and she is five away from 20th. Her 191 free throws are 13th in program history, leaving her just seven away from 12th and eight away from 11th.

This season she leads the team in scoring with 302 points, rebounds with 238, free throws made with 66, steals with 51 and blocks with 13 while starting every game this season. Yocky ranks second on the team in assists with 80 and in field goals made with 110. She's reached double-figures in scoring 16 times, going for a high of 19 against Western New Mexico. She made seven field goals in a game four different times, grabbed 10 or more rebounds in 11 games, going for a high of 15 against Chadron State. She has seven double-doubles this season, had a high in assists with six in three games, sent back two blocks in a game twice and collected five steals versus Colorado Christian.

Yocky was named to the Academic All-RMAC team each of the past three seasons and was named to the All-RMAC Second Team during the 2016-17 season. Her career highs in a game include 25 points against South Dakota Mines, 17 rebounds against Chadron State, six assists in multiple games, five steals in multiple games, three blocked shots in multiple games, 11 field goals against South Dakota Mines, three three-pointers against UC-Colorado Springs and eight free throws in multiple games.

FLC enters the week with a 12-15 overall record and 8-13 mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and are coming off a thrilling 76-74 victory over Western Colorado this past Saturday. Jordan Carter led the way with 21 points, while three others reached double-figures in Aubre Fortner (11), Sydney Candelaria (10) and Yocky (10). The Skyhawks shot 45 percent from the field, including a 41 percent effort from three and did a solid job at the foul line making 77 percent.

In addition to the career numbers for Tobey and Yocky, several other players are closing in on numerous milestones including Kayla Herrera who has 87 three-pointers which is 13th in program history and leaves her 27 from the top-10. Her 415 rebounds put her three away from being in the top-23 in program history. Her 321 field goals are tied for 22nd in program history, leaving her just nine away from the top-20. Herrera's 219 assists are 16th in program history and her 148 steals is 16th in program history and she is just one away from landing in the top-15. Herrera is quickly approaching 900 career points, currently at 886, putting her 21st in program history. Carter recently passed 400 career points and is currently at 414. She also just went over 150 career assists, sitting at 158 and recently passed 175 field goals, currently at 183. Kaitlyn Romero recently went over 275 career points and is at 279. She's five field goals away from 100 in her career (95) and just went over 50 career three-pointers, currently at 54. Candelaria is closing in on 300 career points, currently at 341 and is approaching 125 field goals, currently at 116 and recently went over 50 steals, sitting at 62. Kelsey Wainright recently hit 75 field goals, currently at 77 and is just over 200 career points at 212. Tanisha Begay went over 125 career points recently and is at 126 after scoring a career-high 19 points at Colorado Mesa. Fortner passed 150 points at FLC, moving to 162 after scoring 21 points this past weekend. She's also closing in on 75 field goals, currently at 62 and just broke 75 rebounds, currently at 84. Hanna Valencia eclipsed 100 career points this past weekend and is at 110. Head Coach Jason Flores is three wins away from 125 in his career, currently 122-75.

As a team, FLC averages 65 points and allow 61 points, making 40 percent from the field and allowing a 38 percent clip. Yocky leads the way in scoring at 11.2 points per game along with 8.8 rebounds, 61 assists, 51 steals, 13 blocks and is shooting 50 percent from the field having started all 27 games. Herrera adds 10.8 points per game, along with 5.1 rebounds, 80 assists, 45 steals, seven blocks and has made 33 three-pointers. Carter is at 10.4 points per game and 4.3 rebounds while adding 21 assists, 17 steals, 12 blocks and is shooting 47 percent from the field. Candelaria rounds out the four averaging in double-figures at 10.1 points per game while adding 3.4 rebounds, 48 assists, 41 steals, three blocks and has connected on 29 three-pointers. Fortner comes off the bench to add 6.0 points and Valencia is at 4.1.

FLC ranks in the top-five in the RMAC and top-100 nationally in several categories including fifth in the RMAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (0.91), fifth in the RMAC in assists (348), 74th nationally in fewest turnovers (383), fourth in the RMAC and 87th nationally in field goal percentage defense (38.2), fifth in the RMAC in offensive rebounds per game (11), 60th nationally in scoring defense (60.7), 100th nationally in scoring margin (4.7), first in the RMAC and 70th nationally in steals (241), second in the RMAC and 85th nationally in steals per game (8.9), second in the RMAC and 78th nationally in three point field goal defense (29.5), second in the RMAC and 53rd nationally in turnover margin (2.85), third in the RMAC in turnovers forced (17.04) and fourth in the RMAC and 49th nationally in turnovers per game (14.2).

Individually, Herrera is seventh in the RMAC in assists per game (3.2), eighth in the RMAC in assists (80) and ninth in the RMAC in both assist-to-turnover ratio (0.99) and steals per game (1.80). Yocky is first in the RMAC and 60th nationally in defensive rebounds per game (6), second in the RMAC and 56th nationally in rebounds (238), third in the RMAC and 74th nationally in rebounds per game (8.8) and sixth in the RMAC in both offensive rebounds per game (2) and steals (51). Carter is 10th in the RMAC in field goals made (127).

FLC and Adams State met way back on Dec. 1 in Alamosa when the Grizzlies held on for the 65-63 win. Carter led four Skyhawks in double-figures posting 17 points and made it a double-double with 11 rebounds. Candelaria tallied 13, Herrera had 12 and Yocky also went for a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Grizzlies are 2-23 overall and 2-19 in RMAC play, holding a 1-12 record away from Alamosa and are currently riding a nine-game losing streak. Adams State averages 55 points and allow 68 points, making 36 percent from the field and allowing a 44 percent clip.

Stephanie Ruiz leads the way at 11.8 points per game, while Brooke Neal adds 9.5 points and Zakiya Beckles tallies 7.0 points per game. Last year's meeting in Durango FLC rolled to the 82-47 victory.

A look around the RMAC has Colorado Mesa in first with a 19-2 record and have clinched the RMAC regular season title. Westminster is second with a 17-4 mark, while MSU Denver is third at 14-7. Colorado School of Mines and CSU-Pueblo are tied for fourth with 13-8 records, while Black Hills State, Western Colorado and UC-Colorado Springs are all tied for sixth with 12-9 records. That leaves Regis and Colorado Christian just a game back of a possible tournament spot at 11-10. Dixie State is 11th at 10-11, Fort Lewis and South Dakota Mines are tied for 12th with 8-13 marks, Chadron State and New Mexico Highlands are tied for 14th at 3-18 and then Adams State is 16th at 2-19.
