"Skyhawks Madness" marks beginning of basketball seasons

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's and women's basketball teams will host "Skyhawks Madness" inside of Whalen Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 1 at 6:00 p.m.—marking the official start to basketball season.

The event will kick off with an introduction from Travis Whipple, Director of Athletics. The evening will then feature FLC men's and women's basketball team introductions and words from head coaches Bob Pietrack and Taylor Harris. The event is open to students, faculty and staff, and the public.

"We are excited to begin a new tradition that marks the official start of basketball season inside of Whalen Gymnasium," said Director of Athletics Travis Whipple. "Skyhawks Madness will provide an opportunity for our campus and community to meet our teams while enjoying a fun evening inside Whalen. This is the perfect time to get involved with our program as we look forward to the 2022-23 season."

Following the introduction of our men's and women's players and coaches, the teams will regroup for some competition on Bob Hofman Court. There will be a three-point with the men's and women's teams locking in for bragging rights. Fans might even see some special guests joining in on the action. The top two teams in the three-point contest will go head-to-head to crown a Skyhawks Madness Three Point Challenge Champion.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) will be in attendance, serving as judges for the Slam Dunk Contest featuring representatives from the men's and women's programs. Throughout the night and amongst the festivities, fans in attendance will be treated to free food provided by Bronson Family McDonald's, a Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center T-Shirt Toss, a Pizza Scream giveaway courtesy of Happy Pappy's, and competitions for fans to partake in on the court.
