Hobie and Butler represent Skyhawks on volleyball All-RMAC list

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore Alexis Hobie and freshman Ella Butler were named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, Hobie earning Second-Team and Butler earning Honorable Mention nods, announced by the league on Thursday.

"The conference is packed with so many talented athletes, and to have a pair of Fort Lewis players make the All-RMAC team is very exciting for our program," said head coach Giedre Tarnauskaite.

Hobie stepped up her game in her second season as a Skyhawk, bettering her numbers in nearly every statistical category to back up her All-RMAC Honorable Mention accolade from a season ago. The Eugene, Oregon native leads the team with 258 kills and has put together seven double-doubles this season. She is averaging 3.23 kills per set and hits for a .201 efficiency on the pin—improving on her .119 clip as a freshman.

Her mark of 3.30 kills per set in conference play ranks seventh among players from the league's 15 teams. In addition to her flashy offense, Hobie has held her own in the back row this season. She ranks second on the team with 2.39 digs per set and has a team-high 375 reception attempts with just 23 errors in 80 sets played. She is also leading all outside hitters with .35 blocks per set (24 assists, four solo).

"Alexis has been a force since the first day that she arrives on campus," recognized Tarnauskaite. "She has solidified herself as one of the top scorers in the conference and has grown in her versatility as a hitter. In addition, her back row game has improved tremendously."

Butler, a true freshman out of Arizona, has burst onto the scene as one the nation's most lethal servers. Poised and controlled at the line, she has dropped in 38 service aces this season while committing just 14 errors. Her current mark of .51 aces per set ranks her fourth on the FLC individual single-season aces per set list. That clip is also good for second in the conference, behind just Colorado Mesa's Sabrina VanDeList (0.62 aces/set). Ironically, Butler dropped in a career-high six aces versus Mesa in mid-October, a stat that is third-most in the four-set match in program history.

"Ella is one of the top freshmen in the conference, and I knew that she was ready to compete after watching many of her high school and club matches," said Tarnauskaite. "She is very consistent in all aspects of her game, and her volleyball IQ makes her exceptional."

The middle blocker backs up her impressive serving game with all-around play that makes her one of the top freshmen in the RMAC. She ranks 15th in the conference with .76 blocks per set—the most by a Skyhawks player since 2019. Butler has 103 kills (1.37/set) this season and reached double-figures twice. She is also a solid defender in the back row, averaging nearly one dig per set in just one rotation of back-court play.

"We always strive to be better than we were the day before. The fact that we have two underclassmen representing the Skyhawks shows that the future is bright for this program," said Tarnauskaite in closing.

Fort Lewis, the eight-seed in the RMAC Tournament, will go head-to-head with No. 1 -ranked MSU Denver tonight at 5:00 p.m. from the Auraria Event Center in Denver, Colorado.
