GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College softball team fell in its final two games of the road stand versus Colorado Mesa University on Sunday. The Skyhawks fall to 3-18 overall and 3-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while Colorado Mesa improves to 16-4 and a perfect 10-0 in the league.
Game One: Colorado Mesa 17, Fort Lewis 0
The Mavericks wasted no time getting ahead, picking up a grand slam and a trio of base hits to go ahead 7-0 after one inning of play. The home squad blasted another homer, this time of the two-run flavor, to extend the lead to 9-0 after two. Fort Lewis looked to have an opportunity to cut into the lead, picking up a leadoff walk and a single from Alex Tenorio, but a strikeout kept the scoreboard at 9-0.
Colorado Mesa added to the lead in the bottom of the third, belting a triple to right field to plate a runner from first. Another run came across to score courtesy of a single before a groundout to second base closed out the frame at 11-0. The fourth inning saw a similar outcome as the previous affairs with two long balls and a collection of extra-base hits putting the Mavericks up 17-0. The Skyhawks went down quietly in the top of the fifth to give Colorado Mesa the run-rule victory.

Game Two: Colorado Mesa 9, Fort Lewis 1
The second game of the afternoon got off to a similar start as the first with a homer to right field seeing Colorado Mesa up 1-0 after one inning. This time, though, the Skyhawks had an answer in the form of Madyson Devers. The freshman catcher delivered her first home run of the season, sending the sixth pitch of the at-bat over the left-field fence for a 1-1 ballgame.
The Mavericks wouldn't allow for the celebration to last long, putting up two runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 3-1. Fort Lewis continued to search for an opening, this time picking up a one-out single from Rodman, but a caught stealing call ended the threat. Colorado Mesa would go on to added two runs in the following innings, bringing it to 5-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The home squad would tack on its seventh home run of the day, followed by a triple and sac fly to end the game in a 9-1 score.

Fort Lewis (3-18, 3-9 RMAC) is back at Aspen Field for a four-game series with CSU Pueblo (8-7, 5-7 RMAC), beginning on Saturday with a noon start. The series will carry over to Sunday with game one to begin at 11:00 a.m.
