Greyhounds sweep Skyhawks at West Texas A&M Invitational

CANYON, Texas – Catheryn Rodman supplied a two-run home run in game two to put the Skyhawks on the board, but unable to produce any additional offense the Fort Lewis College softball team was swept by Eastern New Mexico University by scores of 9-0, and 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Schaeffer Park.

The Skyhawks fall to 2-5 overall while Eastern New Mexico rises to 8-4.

"Today wasn't what we were looking for as far as consistency, however, it's an opportunity to learn and not make the same mistake heading into conference play," head coach Dwight Sanders shared. "We have to come out ready to play because nobody will roll over for us in this conference. We're a young group and we're on the right track to group up fast."

All-in-all Fort Lewis procured four hits in each game while making just a single error on the afternoon. Sloan Shotton, Alex Tenorio, and Ashley Burriel were the only Skyhawks with two hits while Rodman scored the only runs of the day with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning of game two.

GAME ONE - EASTERN NEW MEXICO 9, FORT LEWIS 0

Labraida Tenorio (1-2) stood in the circle for the Skyhawks in game one, throwing 4.0 innings and allowing five runs – three of which were earned – five hits, four walks, and three strikeouts. Brook Leger earned the win for the Greyhounds tossing five shutout innings and giving up just four hits in the contest. Eastern New Mexico's Brook Leger threw a five-inning complete game allowing four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

GAME TWO - EASTERN NEW MEXICO 3, FORT LEWIS 2

Fort Lewis kicked down the door with life in game two, taking the early advantage off the bat of Rodman's two-run shot. The Greyhounds answered immediately as Alondra Vasquez sent a two-run home run of her own to center field in the bottom of the first to tie it up. The game became a pitchers dual from then on, but Eastern New Mexico was able to find back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the third for what became the go-ahead run in the ballgame.

Caydee Farnworth (0-3) went the distance in the circle for Fort Lewis, taking the loss while giving up six hits, six walks, and striking out three. Emma Southerland (1-0) earned her first win for ENMU after taking to the circle in the second inning and allowing just three hits.
