Krantz leads Skyhawks at Las Vegas Desert Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Nicholas Krantz finished in a tie for 54th to lead a team of Skyhawks as the Fort Lewis College men's golf team finished 20th at the Las Vegas Desert Classic at Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Hosted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the tournament featured 20 of the top programs from around the South-Central and West regions. Boulder Creek Golf Club features 7,489 yards of golf from the championship tees with a par of 72 strokes.

Lee University's Beck Burnette won the tournament outright as the only individual to finish double digits below par. Burnette tallied rounds of 72, 69, and 63 in route to a 204 (-12) total across the tournament. Colorado Christian University won the team title by a slim margin, finishing the weekend with a team score of 870 (299, 284, 287) to finish just six strokes above par.

INSIDE THE SCORECARDS
Krantz had the highest individual for the Skyhawks finishing in a tie for 54th, posting single-round scores of 81, 77, and 72 to finish with 230 on the scorecard (+14). Ronald Kildall III was the next Skyhawk in tow, finishing just a stroke higher with a 231 (+15) on the scorecard and single-round totals of 80, 73, and 78.

As a five-man unit, Fort Lewis totaled 135 pars and 33 birdies across the week. The Skyhawks posted average scores of 3.5 on par threes, 4.6 on par fours, and 5.2 on par fives.

ROUND ONE (334, +46)
Roud one did the most damage against Fort Lewis as Kildall had the lowest individual finish through the opening 18 holes with an 80 (+8) on the scorecard. Just four individuals in the tournament finished par or better in the first round. While Kildall notched a pair of birdies on holes one and ten, a pair of double bogeys and a single triple bogey kept him above par.

ROUND TWO (316, +28)
Identical to round one, just four individuals across the competition field finished par or better. Kildall remained the front-runner for the Skyhawks with a much stronger second round. Kildall eliminated the double and triple bogeys while one-upping himself with three birdies, but four bogeys on holes six, nine, twelve, and fifteen kept him just a single stroke above par with a 73.

ROUND THREE (304, +16)
Krantz had the most dominant final round for Fort Lewis. Krantz secured a par on his final round thanks to five birdies on holes one, nine, and twelve through fifteen. Krantz finished with just two bogeys across the round, but a triple bogey on the second hole kept the junior from finishing under par.
