Skyhawks football announces 2023 schedule

DURANGO, Colo. – Featuring trips to Liberty, Missouri, and Glendale, Arizona, the 2023 Fort Lewis College football schedule has been finalized, head coach Johnny Cox announced Monday afternoon.

Fort Lewis will open the 2023 campaign with back-to-back non-conference road trips to William Jewell College and Arizona Christian University on Sep. 2 and 9, respectively. The Skyhawks season opener at William Jewell was originally scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31, but has since been pushed back to Saturday, Sep. 2, due to scheduling conflicts at Greene Stadium. While the Skyhawks and Cardinals will meet for the first time in program history to open the season, week two will provide a chance at redemption after the Firestorm downed FLC in its season opener last year.

"Willam Jewel is a formidable opponent," Coach Cox shared. "If you compare the recent records of the two programs, it should be a very competitive game. Arizona Christian on the other hand, was an NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) playoff team last season. They return a lot of excellent experienced players. Last year they were able to come into Ray Dennison memorial stadium and beat us soundly. We have put a lot of work into improving the program and are eager to measure our improvement against them. These are two difficult opponents that will be a great challenge as we prepare for the RMAC schedule."

The Skyhawks are set for its home opener and the start of its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schedule on Sep. 16, welcoming the Cowboys from New Mexico Highlands University for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff. Fans will have five total home contests to enjoy, including Colorado State University-Pueblo on Sep. 30, Colorado Mesa University on Oct. 14, Black Hills State University on Oct. 28, and reigning national-runner up Colorado School of Mines on Nov. 11. All four remaining home games will kick-off at noon.

Homecoming is slated for Saturday, Oct. 14, as Fort Lewis hosts the invading Mavericks from Colorado Mesa University. Senior Day is scheduled for Nov. 11. Additional information surrounding Homecoming, Senior Day, and other events will be released at a later date.

Fort Lewis will travel quite a way this season, making trips to Adams State University on Sep. 23, Chadron State College on Oct. 7, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology on Oct. 21, and Western Colorado University on Nov. 4.

All games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network with the exception of William Jewell and Arizona Christian which will be streamed on both school's home networks.

All dates and times are subject to change with or without notice.
