Katie Fankhouser has qualified for the 1500m race at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Fankhouser selected as qualifier for NCAA Outdoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Katie Fankhouser was officially selected as a qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, announced Wednesday.

A total of 754 participants, 377 men and 377 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event.

Fankhouser will represent Fort Lewis College in the women's 1500m and enters the prelims ranked 10th in the field with a seed time of 4:23.74. She will compete against 20 student-athletes, eight of which hail from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Fankhouser was crowned the RMAC Champion in the 1500m with a huge personal best on the final day of the championships, improving by 12 seconds from her prelim time to stun the field. She followed that up by establishing a pair of program records in the 800m (4:23.74) and 1500m (4:23.74) last weekend at the APU Last Chance Meet in Azusa, California.

The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to begin on Thursday, May 25 at 11:30 a.m. from the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo. The women's 1500m prelim will take place on Thursday at 5:10 p.m. with the finals to be raced on Saturday at 5:35 p.m.
