Cross country races well against conference opponents at Mountaineer Invite

DURANGO, Colo. – The Skyhawks men's and women's cross country team traveled to Western Colorado University, a fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference member, to competed in the Mountaineer Invite on Saturday.

Women's Results
The women's team ran a true team race, led by freshman Linda Weigang who placed second in the 5k with a time of 18:01.2. From there, three Skyhawks bunched up from ninth to 11th place, including junior Brandy Ray (9th, 18:49.9), senior Katherine Brown (10th, 18:51.3), and sophomore Mikenna Hoffman (11th, 18:56.4).

"The women had a fantastic season opener, beating the regions ninth-ranked team and placing three in the top-10," said head coach Shawn Jakubowski. "Linda proved she is going to be a low stick for use this year by cruising to a second-place finish. I was pleased with how week the women packed up and ran together."

Men's Results
The Skyhawks' top finisher was a familiar face in Henry Barth, a senior who is competing for the first time since 2021 and picked up a seventh-place finish in the 8k with a time of 25:50.3. Sophomore Bean Minor was the team's other top-10 finisher with a time of 25:59.6—good for ninth place. Seniors Conner Dossman (26:08.7) and Ethan Bartlett (26:12.0) rounded our the team's top four at 11th and 13th-place, respectively.

"The men had a good season opener. We took it out a little hard at the start and faded a bit but held on for a good finish," said Jakubowski. "Connor ran a fantastic race and increased the depth of this team. Henry led the team in his first race back as a Skyhawk since 2021."

The Skyhawks will head to another familiar stomping ground when they travel to compete in the Gig Leadbetter Maverick Stampede on Friday, September 29. The meet is hosted by Colorado Mesa University and will take place in the Lincoln Park Complex.
