10/8/2024 5:05:00 PM

AMARILLO, Texas – Fighting against sweltering heat and breezy conditions, the Fort Lewis men's golf team dropped eleven strokes above par in its third and final round of the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite to fall to eleventh among seventeen teams at the Amarillo Country Club.

No. 4-ranked Oklahoma Christian, who led the competition by 12 strokes through the first two rounds on a 539 (-21), cruised on the back of its lead to team medalist honors and wrapped up the tournament 26 strokes below par with an 814. Fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference member Colorado Mesa climbed into a second-place finish on an 821 (-19) as the only team to pull within 21 strokes of the Eagles.

On the individual scoreboard, CMU's Cole Beyer set a pair of Maverick program records, including the second-best single-round score (63, -7) and the program's lowest 54-hole score of 197 (-13) to capture individual medalist honors by a single stroke over St. Mary's Kongpop Kaikaew (198, -12).

As for the Skyhawks, back-to-back double and triple-bogeys for Traejan Andrews ultimately caged Fort Lewis' leader into a tie for 13th on a 206 (-4) to record FLC's only below-par or top-25 finish of the tournament. Jackson Rottschafer finished just outside of the pack in a tie for 28th on a 211 (+1) with one birdie and three bogeys across his final round.

Rounding out the Skyhawks are Jordan Jennings (214, +4) in 39th, Tyler Tyson (219, +9) in 69th, and Jake Chesler (221, +11) in 76th. All five Skyhawks dropped scoreboard positions in the final round with Fort Lewis posting the second-highest team score in the final trip around the Amarillo Country Club.

Headed West
The Skyhawks will continue the fall campaign next week over in Seaside, California, taking on the Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay, at the Bayonet Black Horse golf course on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 14-15.
