Volleyball wraps up regular-season at home versus Mines and No. 5 MSU Denver

DURANGO, Colo. – Skyhawks volleyball is back in Whalen Gym for the final time this season with a Friday/Saturday split against Colorado School of Mines and No. 5 MSU Denver.

Last Time Out
The Skyhawks played one match last week on the road against CSU Pueblo. Despite building a two-set lead over the Pack, the Skyhawks ultimately fell in a five-set match inside of Massari Arena.

Fort Lewis hit .127 for the match compared to a .265 efficiency for CSU Pueblo. The Skyhawks benefited from 11 service aces while the Pack had a 13-9 advantage in blocks. Individually, sophomore Alina Nunez led the team with 14 kills, followed by senior Alexis Hobie with 12. Freshman Emery Pomroy led the team with 15 digs while senior Natalia Lambos had 12 to go along with 38 assists. Freshman Maddy Shumway led all players with four aces.

Scouting Colorado School of Mines
Mines sits at 9-15 overall and 5-7 in conference play following a Monday road loss versus Regis (3-2). The Orediggers are 4-9 at home and 2-4 on the road. They currently sit in a three-way tie with Adams State and Fort Lewis for ninth place in the conference.

As a team, Mines hits at a .187 clip compared to a .223 efficiency for its opponents. The Orediggers are aced an average of 1.6 times per set. Hannah Kinnison leads the team by averaging 2.93 kills per set, followed by Taylor Helms (2.24) and Kate Kudlac (2.20). Mines has worked three setters throughout the season, led most recently by Hope Storm who averages 8.84 assists per set. Presley Powell and Brinleigh Davis have also seen significant time at setter and both average over seven assists per set.

On defense, the team is paced by Kinnison who picks up 3.15 digs per set. She it backed up by a trio of players with over two digs per set. Kinnison is also the primary target on serve receive where she has a .948 receiving percentage in 576 chances. Defense at the net is led by Alison Jansen who averages .92 blocks per set, followed by Jenna McLaughlin at .84 blocks per set.

Fort Lewis is 7-30 all-time against Mines and has lost 21 straight. Four of the team's seven wins have come in Whalen Gymnasium. The Skyhawks were swept in Golden last season in a match where Ella Butler led the team at eight kills.

Scouting No. 5 MSU Denver
The Roadrunners are enjoying another dominant season with a 22-2 overall record and a 12-0 mark in conference play. MSU Denver is ranked fifth in the most recent AVCA Coaches Poll but has been as high as No. 1 this season. They are 12-2 at home and 7-0 on the road.

The Roadrunners hit .291 as a team and hold their opponents to a .145 efficiency. They have nearly doubled up the opposition from the service line with 1.8 aces per set and dominate the net with 2.7 blocks per set. Leading the team is Riley Anderson with 3.43 kills per set on a .296 efficiency, followed by Annika Helf with 3.36 kills per set and a .318 efficiency. MSU Denver is running its typical 6-2 offense with Delaney Eckhardt (6.33 assists/set) and Amela Qershia (4.82 assists/set).

Abbie McCrimmon leads the team in the backcourt with 3.84 digs per set, followed by Helf at 2.24 per set. Anderson is the primary serving target with 461 attempts and a .939 receiving percentage. At the net, Alyssa Boyte leads all players with 1.37 blocks per set followed by Kryssa Moerman at 1.10 per set.

Skyhawks are in a three-way tie for ninth. Mines is also in the nine spot, to a win over the Orediggers will be key for the Skyhawks if they want to extend their season.
