Building Off Last Week
Fort Lewis kicked off the season with trips down to Lubbock Christian (1-1-0) and Eastern New Mexico (1-0-1) last week resulting in a 5-0 win over the Chaparrals and a 1-1 draw against the Greyhounds. The Skyhawks were relentless, outshooting opponents 33-15 over the week including 18 shots on goal against five combined from the opposition.

The Citron Show
Junior David Citron, who transferred to Fort Lewis from Presbyterian College (NCAA DI) ahead of the 2023 season, has been an absolute showstopper in the Skyhawks first two matches of the year. Last year, Citron supplied two goals and six assists for 10 points across 671 minutes on the pitch. Through just two matches thus far, Citron has already tallied two goals and two assists for Fort Lewis and leads the roster with six total points. In addition, Citron is tied for the most assists, second-most goals, and second-most points in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Keeping It Clean
Lucas Martin returns for his sophomore season as the Skyhawks starting goalkeeper. The six-foot-three keeper from Middlesbrough, England, owns a 13-4-5 career record for the Skyhawks alongside a 73.7 percent save percentage and 1.18 goals-against average: the seventh-best goals-against average in program history. Martin earned his fourth career shutout against Lubbock Christian, leaving him two shy of matching Devin Zimmerman (2000-01) for the tenth-most career shutouts in program history.

A Seasoned Foe
St. Mary's is no stranger to success under seventh-year head coach Johnny Clifford. Named the United Soccer Coaches South-Central Region Staff of the Year in 2022, Clifford and company have since made it to the Lone Star Conference Tournament in each of his last five seasons. The Rattlers have twice raised the LSC Tournament Trophy in 2019 and 2022 alongside trips to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament in the same seasons. Overall, Clifford owns a career record of 65-25-20 at SMU.

Triple Threat
Three Rattlers have found the back of the net thus far this season including Gael Gallegos, Lewis Nohar, and Bradley Greene. Yesterday, it was Nohar, a graduate student from Cumnock, Scotland, who played the role of hero bending a 25-yard strike into the top-right corner of the frame to force a 1-1 draw with Colorado Mesa (0-0-1) in the 86th minute. Back on Sep. 5, it was the duo of Gallegos (two goals) and Greene who helped StMU secure a 3-1 victory over Our Lady of the Lake (1-3).

Honky-Tonk Showdown
Fort Lewis is headed back across I-40 this weekend for a Sunday afternoon tilt down at West Texas A&M (0-1-1). The Skyhawks and Buffaloes will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Sep. 15 at The Pitch. Fans can stream the game live with a FloSports subscription.
