Jennings, Skyhawks off to hot start in West Point

WEST POINT, Miss. – A late start to the fall season seems to favor the Fort Lewis men's golf team as the Skyhawks reside in fourth place and eleven strokes above par following the opening day and first two rounds of the Dunning Invitational.
 
Redshirt junior Jordan Jennings got off to an impressive start as the Montrose, Colo., native shot the third-lowest score in his first trip around the course with a four-under-par 68. Jennings then bounced back to shoot a one-under 71 in his second round to reside in second place on the individual leaderboard with a 139 (-5) total.
 
Midwestern State's Seth Bearden owns a commanding six-stroke lead in first place after the junior from Crowell, Texas, posted the two lowest single-round scores in the tournament with a 66 (-6) to open the event followed by a 67 (-5).
 
The Mustangs own the lead on the team leaderboard as well with a three-under team total of 573 after the first two rounds. UT Tyler chases MSU in second place on a 574 (-2), followed by Valdosta State in third with a 575 (-1), and the Skyhawks in fourth with a 587 (+11).
 
Juniors Jake Chesler and Traejan Andrews are tied for 29th as the second and third men up on the leaderboard for Fort Lewis carded scores of 150 (+6) through the first two rounds. Chesler went four-over through round one and two-over through round two while Andrews finished one-over and five-over, respectively.
 
Carson Kerr and Tyler Tyson also finished in a tie in 41st after finishing nine strokes above par with 153s. Kerr tallied a one-over 73 in his first round followed by an eight-over 80 in his second outing. Tyson, on the other hand, carded a six-over 78 followed by a three-over 75.

The Skyhawks have one final round to play tomorrow, Tuesday, Sep. 24, over at Mossy Oak Golf Club with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Central Standard Time.
