Andrews, Rottschafer in the hunt at the Inn of the Mountain Gods

9/30/2024 7:22:00 PM

MESCALERO, N.M. – Junior Traejan Andrews stands at five-under par (139) to lead the field with senior Jackson Rottschafer right on his heels at four-under (140) as the Skyhawks currently reside in second of nine teams at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association South Central Shootout.

Andrews secured an eagle on hole nine to finish one-below par through the front nine before carding back-to-back birdies on holes ten and eleven followed by a third birdie on hole sixteen to finish with a three-under 69 in his first round. In his second trip through the course, Andrews dropped in five birdies to offset a trio of bogeys to climb two spots and into the lead heading into the final round.

Rottschafer bested Andrews with a near-perfect opening round as the Centennial, Colo., native posted three birdies, an eagle one hole nine, and just a single bogey on hole four. While Rottschafer slipped slightly in his second round, he managed an even five birdie and five bogeys for a par of 72. While Rottschafer sits in a tie for third, his performance does not count towards the Skyhawks team score as he is competing as an unattached individual.

Fort Lewis climbed one spot on the team leaderboard in round two to earn a second-place finish after the opening round. The Skyhawks carded a group score of 291 in round one and 286 in round two for a 577 (+1) total to trail tournament leader Texas Permian Basin by five strokes as the Falcons stand at 573 (-3) overall. West Texas A&M sits behind FLC in third with a 580 (+4) followed by Lubbock Christian and Western New Mexico with identical 585s (+9).

Jordan Jennings finds himself in a tie for 11th as the redshirt junior and FLC's leader at the last tournament scored back-to-back rounds of 72 (E) and 71 (-1) for a 143 (-1) total. Jake Chesler is the fourth Skyhawk to stand in the top 20 after rounds one and two with a tie for 18th on a 147 (+3) total. Tyler Tyson and Carson Kerr trail closely behind in a tie for 24th (151, +7) and a tie for 27th, respectively.

Ronald Kildall III, who is the Skyhawks second unattached individual in the tournament, resides in a tie for 34th with a 155 (+11).
