Women’s golf kicks off 2024-25 campaign with Swam Memorial

DURANGO, Colo. – For the sixth consecutive season, the Fort Lewis College women's golf team will kick off another year with the annual Swan Memorial, hosted by Colorado Christian, at The Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield, Colo., this Monday and Tuesday.

Opened in 1999 and designed by Rick Phelps, The Broadlands features 5,996 yards of challenging golf with a par of 72.

Two freshmen will make their collegiate debuts on Monday in Peyton Gibby and Dimery Plewe. Plewe makes her way to Durango following two years at Idaho State while Gibby joins the Skyhawks after wrapping up her high school career in which she qualified for the state tournament in all four seasons. Leading the pair will be senior Vivianna Holguin and sophomores Isabel Bustillos and Sarah Grenemyer.

Fort Lewis will be up against a field of programs from across the West and South-Central regions including Cal State Los Angeles, Chico State, Angelo State, Bellevue University, and Garden City Community College. In addition to its non-conference foes, the Skyhawks will also tee off against fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference members MSU Denver, Colorado Christian, Colorado Mesa, CSU Pueblo, Westminster, and Black Hills State.

The action is set to tee off at 9:00 a.m. with Gibby leading the way for the Skyhawks at noon.

Looking Ahead
Next week, the Skyhawks will head to the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona, for the annual Ruidoso Junior Golf Association's Shootout at Estrella on Monday and Tuesday, Sep. 16-17.
