No. 9 Fort Lewis escapes Salt Lake City with draw on Guintini’s brace

Guintini posts second multi-goal match of 2025

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Down to possibly the last offensive push into the Griffins' defending third, Yohann Fila drove into the crease down the far side, sent service back towards the center of the box, and after back-to-back deflections, Lorenz Guintini punched in the equalizer with 35 seconds remaining to secure a brace and one conference point on the road.

No. 9-ranked Fort Lewis (4-1-4, 0-0-2 RMAC) took an early advantage just eight minutes into the match with Guintini's first goal of the evening. Alessio Andreottola pulled three defenders out near the far corner of the penalty box before squeezing a pass right through the trio to Guintini, who spun with one touch and tucked a goal inside the near post.

The Skyhawks, held to a season-low 10 total shots, found themselves square with Westminster University (4-4-2, 0-1-2 RMAC) just moments later. Owen Gallo took a corner kick from the near side, and the low-arcing shot bounced through a Griffin's legs to an unmarked Kolson Helquist, who fired a rocket into the net for his first goal of the season.

It took Fort Lewis all of seven minutes to get the lead back, and it was a sense of déjà vu for Westminster. Andreottola once more strolled down the far side, coming to a complete stop before making a sharp cut to his left foot, and sending a beautiful ball to the far corner of the crease, where Francisco Pinto elevated and buried a header for his third goal of the campaign.

Westminster wouldn't be outdone on its home pitch, however, and recaptured a 3-2 lead in the span of just two minutes and six seconds. First, Christian Kercher sliced a shot from just inside the top of the box just off the far post, and then Jack Epstein scored a diving shot from the crease on a crossing pass that weaved through the crowd.

The Griffins kept up the pressure throughout the second half, firing off 15 total shots for the match, edging the Skyhawks in shots-on-goal 6-to-5, and in corner kicks, 10-to-4. Down to the final seconds, Raul Baptista Filipe drove toward the box on the far side before finding Fila 10 yards out from the end line. Fila danced through four Griffins and found just enough of a seam to center the ball, where Guintini capitalized and punched in his eighth goal of the year to force the draw.
