No. 15 Fort Lewis to open RMAC schedule at home against Cougars, Roadrunners

DURANGO, Colo. – The No. 15 nationally ranked Fort Lewis men's soccer team (4-1-2) will look to bounce back from the comforts of its home pitch on Dirks Field this weekend as the Skyhawks welcome Colorado Christian University (0-7-1) on Friday and Metropolitan State University of Denver on Sunday (2-2-4) to begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
 
Pink Game Presented by CommonSpirit and Alpine Bank
Friday night's match will mark the program's annual Pink Match, presented by CommonSpirit and Alpine Bank. Pink rally towels and headbands will be given out before the match. $1 from every ticket purchased will be donated to the CommonSpirit Breast Care Center, with Alpine Bank generously donating a dollar-for-dollar match on those sales. 
 
High-Octane Offense
Fort Lewis heads into the opening week of RMAC competition boasting the nation's seventh-highest offense in NCAA Division II, averaging 2.71 goals per game thus far. The Skyhawks are rifling off 18.86 shots per game, the second most in DII, and place 7.0 shots on goal per game, the 19th-most in DII. In addition, paced by nine individuals to register a point, FLC also carries the 16th-most total points in DII with 54.

Series with Colorado Christian
The Skyhawks may lead the Cougars 52-6-4 all-time, 51-4-4 in conference play, and 26-3-1 at home heading into Friday night's action, but FLC has not beaten CCU since 2021. Colorado Christian captured a 3-2 victory on the road in 2022 (Sept. 23) and has since forced back-to-back 1-1 ties (Oct. 1) and 2-2 ties (Oct. 4) in Durango and Lakewood, Colo., respectively. Before the three-match winless streak, Fort Lewis had won 35 consecutive matches dating back to Sept. 13, 2002.
 
Caged Cougars
Colorado Christian struggled in non-conference play, battling to a 1-1 draw with South Dakota Mines (5-0-2) in the season opener, and has since lost seven consecutive matches, suffering five shutouts. The Cougars' offense exploded for four goals in a loss to Northwest Nazarene University (3-2-2) in the game of the year, but they have only scored one goal over the last six games.

Series with MSU Denver
Fort Lewis has edged MSU Denver 37-26-6 all-time, 28-22-4 in conference play, and a narrow 17-13-2 at home. The Skyhawks got the best of the Roadrunners in the regular season, 4-3, but battled to a 2-2 draw in the opening round of the 2024 RMAC Tournament before FLC advanced on penalty kicks, 6-5. Before last year's regular season win, MSU Denver had won three of the last four matches, including two in Durango.
 
Roadrunners Get Level
MSU Denver has battled to favorable results in six of its eight total matches this season, earning a pair of 3-1 (Sept. 11) and 1-0 wins over Dominican (Calif.) (3-4-1) and Colorado Christian, respectively. The Roadrunners' only two losses came in back-to-back matches on the road at St. Edward's (3-3-2), 2-1 (Sept. 14), and at home against Cal Poly Pomona (5-1-2), 3-0 (Sept. 19).

Looking Ahead
Fort Lewis will hit the road for Salt Lake City and the Western Slope next week, heading to Westminster University (4-4-0) for a match with the Griffins on Friday, Oct. 10, before heading next door to Colorado Mesa University (3-3-1) to take on the Mavericks at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.
