DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team is down to its last two games of the regular season with hopes of extending play into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

Fort Lewis (14-9, 8-4 RMAC) takes on Colorado Christian University (10-14, 5-7 RMAC) on Friday before wrapping up conference play on Saturday at CSU Pueblo (17-7, 9-3 RMAC). The Skyhawks sit in a three-way tie for fourth place in the RMAC alongside Mines and Colorado Mesa. Fort Lewis holds the head-to-head over Colorado Mesa, and Mines has the head-to-head against Fort Lewis.

The top eight teams in the conference standings advance to the RMAC Tournament, which is set to begin on Tuesday, November 18 on the campuses of the high seeds. Semifinals will be played on Friday, November 21 with the championship match the following day on Saturday.

Last Time Out
There were two losses on paper for the Skyhawks last week at home, but taking sets off nationally ranked opponents is nothing to hang your head about. Fort Lewis opened play with a 3-1 loss to No. 11 MSU Denver, hitting .124 for the match compared to a .288 clip for the Roadrunners. Fort Lewis was superior from the service line with seven aces compared to three for MSU Denver.

The next night, Fort Lewis and (RV) UCCS played a marathon five set match in Whalen, totaling 42 tied scores and 16 lead changes in a heartbreaker that eventually went to the Mountain Lions. Freshman Alyx Daugherty turned in a program record 40 digs in the match, becoming just the 10th player and lone freshman in the country to do so this season.

Daugherty named RMAC DPOTW
Daugherty is the third Fort Lewis College volleyball player to be named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week this season, following senior Ella Butler (Oct. 27) and sophomore Emery Pomroy (Sept. 15). The freshman was as dynamic on defense as Whalen Gym has ever seen through matches against No. 11 MSU Denver and (RV) UCCS last week. She averaged 6.44 digs per set with 58 total digs in the two matches.

In addition to her defensive prowess, she was errorless on serve receive in 52 chances, giving her a .976 receiving percentage in 340 chances this season. Daugherty ranks second in the conference in digs per set (4.86) and leads the league in digs per set in conference-only matches (5.42).

Scouting Colorado Christian
The Cougars have experienced the highs and lows of sports this season, beginning the year with a huge win over then-No. 2 Angelo State at home before suffering an 11-match losing streak that was finally snapped on Tuesday against New Mexico Highlands.

Colorado Christian is hitting .203 this season compared to a .213 mark for its opponents. The team averages 1.5 aces, 15 digs, and 1.9 blocks per set. Throughout the losing stretch, the team hit north of .200 on four occasions.

Connelly Kilgore leads the team by averaging 3.24 kills per set, followed by three players that put away at least two. Renee Phillips averages 2.78 kills per set and leads the way by hitting .343. The team has toyed with a two-setter offense throughout the rough stretch and looks to Kate Ringer (5.12 assists/set) and Danielle Seabern (4.00 A/S) to run the show. Krista Traynor began the year as the primary setter, averaging over nine assists per set, but has not seen the court since October 18. Defense runs through Kristina House at 4.19 digs per set, and she leads the team in receiving chances with 444 and 21 errors (.953).

Scouting CSU Pueblo
The Pack holds a 17-7 record and a 9-3 mark in conference play to sit third in the league. CSU Pueblo is 7-0 when playing at home and is on the heels of four-consecutive wins.

CSU Pueblo hits .231 while holding its opponents to a .184 efficiency. Blocking is a strong point for the team where they average 2.3 per set to go along with 16.4 digs, marking a balanced defense.

The offense goes as Caelyn Gunn goes, with the senior transfer averaging 4.02 kills per set at a .230 efficiency on the pin. Gunn is as well-rounded as they come and also contributes 3.27 digs per set on defense. Golden Finch is the most efficient outlet with 1.86 kills per set on a .328 clip. Elena Stankovic runs the show as the setter with 9.46 assists per set and a team-best 29 service aces. Megan Mattingly is the top defender with 3.95 digs per set and 12 receiving errors on 381 chances (.969). Finja Schul and Finch each average one block per set.
