Skyhawks even the score, use dominant second half to down No. 23/25 Roadrunners in Denver

Fort Lewis moves to 2-1 against top 25 opponents

DENVER, Colo. – Biko Johnson led all players with 24 points while Cassius Carmichael poured in a season-high 18 points and Tru Allen another 13 points to lead Fort Lewis (14-7, 8-4) past No. 23/25 MSU Denver (15-5, 9-3 RMAC) 81-74 up at the Auraria Events Center. The Skyhawks answered for December's 65-48 loss at home to the Roadrunners to split the season series.

"I am so proud of our guys tonight bouncing back after a tough loss on Thursday," Fort Lewis College Jordan Mast commented after the game. "These last two games have been against the two of the top teams in our league, and our guys proved we belong. Guys stepped up and made huge plays and defended at a high level. Our guards were able to attack, create advantageous situations, and put us in great control of the game. I really thought Cassius Carmichael had a huge game and made winning plays across the day. Although I'm happy with the win, we have no time to rest with Adams State coming to Durango on Tuesday."

Fort Lewis out-shot MSU Denver 51.9 percent (27-52) to 42.0 percent (21-50) for the contest, including 57.7 percent (15-26) to 33.3 percent (8-24) in the second half to pull away down the stretch. In addition, FLC went inside and played tough, outscoring the Roadrunners 38-24 on points in the paint while picking up 33 points off the bench to MSUD's 20.

The Roadrunners were 24-28 (85.7 percent) at the line led by Brayden Carter's 8-of-10 day at the charity stripe. Carter also had a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double, his third in as many games and his fourth of the season.

Caleb McGill was the only other Roadrunner to finish in double figures with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting with a perfect 3-for-3 mark from downtown. McGill also had five rebounds, two assists, and a block. Four MSUD players had between eight and nine points.
