Cold start dooms Skyhawks against ThunderWolves

CSU Pueblo defeats Fort Lewis for first time since 2021

DURANGO, Colo. – Despite controlling the pace off the glass, forcing a near 2-to-1 turnover ratio, and registering four Skyhawks in double figures with 20+ point outings from Tru Allen and Biko Johnson, it was first-half and free throw shooting that proved the difference as Fort Lewis (16-10, 10-7 RMAC) fell102-98 to a sharp-shooting CSU Pueblo (11-14, 6-11 RMAC) squad Thursday night up on the rim.

"It's frustrating to lose, but I'm very proud of our effort," head coach Jordan Mast said. "Our guys defended exactly how we wanted, which I know sounds crazy after allowing our opponent to score 100 points. CSU Pueblo shot the lights out tonight. To their credit, we made them do what we wanted, and they knocked down shots and were nearly perfect at the line."

The ThunderWolves posted its best shooting performance of the season, hitting at clips of 57.1 percent (28-49) from the field, 52.4 percent (11-21) from the three-point line, and 97.2 percent (35-36) at the free-throw line. The Pack knocked down 32 consecutive free throws before its first miss with 1:03 seconds left in the contest.

The Skyhawks otherwise dominated in nearly every category, pulling down 35 rebounds against the ThunderWolves 27, picking up 15 steals on 19 forced turnovers while surrendering ten turnovers of its own, edging The Pack in points in the paint 46-to-30, second-chance points 20-to-6, and led in points off turnovers 25-to-15. CSU Pueblo's bench out-scored the home bench 40-to-20.

Five members of The Pack finished in double figures led by Victor Lado's 19-point night on 6-of-9 shooting. Brevin Walter poured in 18 points of his own backed by a perfect 10-for-10 night at the free-throw line. Armon Muldrew supplied 17 points, De'Shaun Cooper 16 points, and Kesean Bazile the final 14 points to cap the ThunderWolves in double figures.

Fort Lewis struggled early, shooting just 32.4 percent before bouncing back for a 59.5 percent second half to ultimately shoot 46.5 percent (33-71) from the floor for the evening. The Skyhawks went just 7-for-19 (36.8 percent) from deep and 25-37 (67.6 percent) at the charity stripe.

Allen put up a game-high 24 points while tying for a game-high eight rebounds and had three steals and three assists. Johnson went for 20 points of his own on 5-of-10 shooting while hitting 3-of-6 from deep. Stewart Erhart and Chuol Deng provided 16 points and 14 points, respectively. Allen, Deng, and Cassius Carmichael tied for the game-high with three steals apiece.
