Softball drops two on Friday afternoon

Milliman enjoys three-hit performance

DENVER, Colo. – The Fort Lewis softball team fell behind in its final series at Regis two games to none after the Skyhawks (10-36, 9-32 RMAC) dropped game one 9-0 and game two 7-2 to the Rangers (19-30, 18-22 RMAC) over at the Regis Softball Field.

Regis 9, Fort Lewis 0 (5 Inn.)
A dominant outing from sophomore Ava Edwards (2-6). The right-handed pitcher tossed her second complete game of the year, giving up only three hits and one walk while notching a career-high six strikeouts. Offensively, Regis was extremely efficient, picking up nine runs on nine hits with only three runners left on base.

After recording only one hit in the first two innings, the Rangers then exploded in the bottom half of the third inning for eight runs on six hits and one Skyhawks error. Isabella Porter opened the scoring with a solo home run before Mya Chacon and Mia Moore both singled to reach base. Then, with two outs, Regis erupted, stringing together two doubles, a single, and an error to plate seven runs and institute the run-rule. Bella Bordine later doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning to push across an insurance run.

Faith Sgro, Makenna Milliman, and Stacia Raley each singled in the third, fourth, and third innings, respectively. Hailie Mann (2-14) suffered the loss, finishing with a final line of nine hits, nine runs, five earned runs, one walk, one hit-by-pitch, and two strikeouts.

Regis 7, Fort Lewis 2
Game two provided a more balanced offensive contest from both sides, but Regis held the edge, scoring seven runs on eight hits against Fort Lewis' two runs on seven hits. In addition, the Skyhawks committed two errors, resulting in three unearned runs, compared to the Rangers' one error, resulting in one run in favor of FLC.

The Rangers took the early lead once more, plating one as Chacon stole home on a double steal after drawing a leadoff walk, stealing second, and moving to third on an infield groundout. Milliman tied the contest up at one-all in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI double to left-center field, but the Rangers would storm back with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.

Rhiannon Lister put the Skyhawks back within one with a sacrifice fly to center field in the top of the fifth inning, but Regis responded once again, extending the lead by way of an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. RU scored its final three runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, plating one on an RBI double from Angelina Romero-Barros and the final pair on an RBI single back up the middle off the bat of Moore.

Hallie Crappell (6-6) took the win, going the distance for the seventh time this year and allowing only two earned runs on seven hits and one walk. Crappell also struck out two.
