Men’s golf climbs into fifth as lightning suspends play

9/22/2025 7:25:00 PM

MONTROSE, Colo. – The Fort Lewis men's golf team battled a brisk morning, a gusty afternoon, and climbed into fifth place halfway through the second round before lightning suspended play for the evening at The Bridges Golf & Country Club on Monday.

The Skyhawks got off to a rocky start on Monday morning, but bounced back after the opening nine holes to find themselves at 480 (-7) overall, two strokes back from fourth-place Lubbock Christian (475, -9), three strokes back from (RV) Colorado School of Mines (470, -10), and 13 strokes back from first-place and No. 19-ranked Colorado Mesa (458, -20). Lubbock Christian's Hayden Bowman leads the individual leaderboard, carding a 113 thus far to sit with a three-stroke lead and at 11 under par.

Lightning suspended play around 4:25 p.m., and after teams got back out for one more hole, the weather once again suspended play for the evening. All teams have completed between 10-14 holes in their second round of the three rounds.

Redshirt junior Traejan Andrews is in front for the Skyhawks for the third consecutive tournament, with the Greeley, Colo., native sitting in a tie for ninth place and four strokes below par (120). Montrose native Jordan Jennings sits another stroke back (119, -3) in a tie for 12th, followed by Ben Harding (119) and Jake Chesler (122) at an even par in a tie for 25th.

Freshman Chase Rogers leads the Fort Lewis B-team, sitting in a split for 39th on the strength of a 116 (+2). Rounding out the Skyhawks roster is Ian Henderson in T-53 on a 128 (+10), Davis Johnson in T-56 with a 126 (+11), Dallin Stephens in T-59 carding a 126 (+12), and Connor Burton in 61st with a 134 (+16).

Play will resume at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.
