Hartwell smashes meet record, Skyhawks record numerous personal bests

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Skyhawks cross country opened the 2025 season in impressive fashion at the 32nd annual Joe I. Vigil Invitational, highlighted by a meet record and individual title from returning All-American Hannah Hartwell, along with strong collegiate debuts from several freshmen.

Men's Results – 2nd Place (35 points)
The Skyhawks men placed second overall, led by a wave of standout collegiate debuts. Christian Alley paced the group in his first collegiate race, taking seventh in a field of 55 with a time of 24:41.7. Close behind was Cooper Filmore in ninth (24:49.6), followed by Treyton Schaapherder in 12th (24:56.8).

The team's depth showed as three more Skyhawks crossed within seconds of each other: Brody Hubbard (16th, 25:02.8), Asante Maez (17th, 25:03.2, PR), and Cesar Diaz (18th, 25:05.2, PR). Evan Morozowich capped the top-seven with a 20th-place finish in 25:13.8.

Women's Results – 2nd Place (51 points)
Hartwell wasted no time making her mark in her senior season. The standout distance runner claimed the individual 5K title with a meet-record and personal-best time of 16:49.3, finishing nearly 30 seconds ahead of Adams State's Tristian Spence, a top-20 NCAA finisher last season.

Behind her, the Skyhawks showcased balance and depth. Althea Griffith placed 10th with the team's second PR of the day (18:26.0), coming in just ahead of freshman Carysa Marquez in 11th (18:26.9). Alliyah Molina followed in 14th (18:48.7), while Madelaine Jellison secured 17th (19:10.2) to close out the scoring five—earning a PR in the effort. Claire Peterson (26th, 19:50.4, PR) and Sophie Hamm (27th, 19:50.6) were close behind.
