Skyhawks women third before lightning suspends play

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's golf team combined for a 310 (+22) to move into third place at its Nick Turner Invitational at Hillcrest Golf Club before lightning in the area suspended the tournament on Monday evening.
 
Round one will resume at 8 a.m. on holes 14-18. The second round will begin with a shotgun start soon after at 10 a.m. Hillcrest Golf Club, which typically plays to a par-71, is staged to a par 72 for the tournament, with hole four converted to a 479-yard, par five. The course is set to 6,066 yards in total.
 
Fort Lewis capped the evening in third place among the six teams, behind first-place Westminster University on a 302 (+14) and second-place New Mexico Junior College with a 304 (+16). Colorado Mesa University is fourth on a 313 (+25), Colorado Christian University fifth on a 324 (+36), and Adams State University sixth on a 424 (+136). Westminster's Ashley Lam takes a one-stroke lead into the final round after a 73 (+1) in her first round.
 
Senior Isabel Bustillos leads the Skyhawks team in T-3 after carding a 75 (+3) with three birdies in her first trip around the home course. Freshman Abigail Gryzynger, who is competing as an individual, is also T-3 through 13 holes. Junior Peyton Gibby is second up for Fort Lewis, with the Arizona native sitting T-13 by way of a 77 (+5).
 
Rounding out the Skyhawks' scoring group is sophomore Ellie White in T-15 on a 76 (+6), freshman Paola Guerrero in T-22 thanks to an 80 (+8), and Annika Gutierrez 32nd with an 86 (+14). Sophomore Kathryn Moores and freshman Eleanor Pilgrim also competed unattached, and the pair managed just 13 holes to sit in T-5 and T-29, respectively.
 
Gryzynger, Pilgrim, and Moores are the only three Skyhawks left to wrap up their first rounds.
