USC National Poll
Fort Lewis is back in the national spotlight for the first time since Sept. 8, after landing at No. 14 in yesterday's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The Skyhawks are the second-highest-ranked RMAC team on the poll behind No. 7 CSU Pueblo. UCCS fell to No. 23, while Regis University (4-3-3, 1-1-1 RMAC) fell out of the poll but is still receiving votes. USC also provides south-central regional rankings, where Fort Lewis ranks third, behind second-place CSU Pueblo and first-place No. 2-ranked Midwestern State University (9-0-3, 3-0-1 LSC).

RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week
Senior goalkeeper Lucas Martin was named RMAC Week Six Goalkeeper of the Week Tuesday morning after defending the net and helping Fort Lewis to a pair of 2-1 wins at home over Westminster University (3-5-4, 1-2-1 RMAC) and then-receiving-votes Colorado Mesa University (4-2-5, 2-1-1 RMAC). Martin faced 31 shots, 10 shots on goal, and 11 corner kicks, and made eight saves, including a penalty kick against the Griffins on a potential equalizer to cement Fort Lewis' win.

Dangerous Everywhere
The Skyhawks' high-powered offense boasts eight individual goal scorers this year, with five individuals having scored at least thrice. 10 different players have also recorded assists. Sophomore Simão Agostinho leads Fort Lewis and the RMAC with seven goals and has two assists for a team-high 16 points, good for the second-most in the conference. Junior William Bretvik is close behind with five goals and one assist for 11 points, while junior Raul Baptista Filipe, sophomore Francisco Pinto, and junior Fabrizio Aguilera all have three goals each. The trio has made six, four, and one assist, respectively.

As a unit, Fort Lewis averages an NCAA Division II 29th-most 2.18 goals per game, on the strength of 13.27 shots, 6.45 shots on goal, and 4.55 corners per game, with a 48.6 shots-on-goal percentage.

Into the Mountain Lions Den
Fort Lewis will meet UCCS inside Mountain Lion Stadium for the fourth time in three years on Thursday night, with the Skyhawks having won the last six straight meetings between the two teams since the RMAC Tournament Semifinals back on Nov. 5, 2023. In addition, Fort Lewis leads 7-3 over the last ten meetings, 48-15-5 all-time, and 21-7-4 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The top-ranked Mountain Lions have been in a 1-1-2 slump since starting conference action, with their lone victory coming by way of a 1-0 decision over previously No. 24 Regis last Sunday (Oct. 4). UCCS was 4-0-1 to start the season, including a big-time 1-1 draw at home against then No. 1-ranked Midwestern State on Sept. 4.

As a team, UCCS is averaging 2.25 goals per match on 17 shots, 7.5 shots on goal, and 7.1 corners per game. The Mountain Lions, with senior Hugo Sjöberg in goal for all but 160 minutes, have held opponents to 1.08 goals, 13.1 shots, 5.4 shots on goal, and 5.0 corners per game. Sophomore Yohann Fila paces the group with six goals and two assists for 14 points, while 12 different Mountain Lions have scored this season. Junior Lucas Taitt has supplied four goals, and junior Eduardo Macias, sophomore Cole Wearner, and freshman Toby Benitez another three goals apiece.

Rematch with The Pack in ThunderWolves Territory
CSU Pueblo will look to fend off Fort Lewis for the second time this year after the ThunderWolves downed the Skyhawks 3-1 in Durango, Colo., in a non-conference match back on Sept. 20. The Skyhawks' loss marked the fifth-straight win for The Pack, who are 7-2-1 over FLC in the last ten matches, despite Fort Lewis' 51-17-5 lead all-time and 22-10-2 edge in Pueblo, Colo.

The top-ranked ThunderWolves have also been a skid of sorts, suffering back-to-back 1-1 draws with Colorado Mesa (Sept. 27) and Regis (Oct. 2) after reeling off seven straight wins to start the season. St. Mary's University (7-3, 3-0 LSC) was the ThunderWolves' toughest non-conference test, and CSUP prevailed 1-0 on the Rattlers' home pitch.

CSU Pueblo is averaging 2.10 goals on 12.5 shots, 5.9 shots on goal, and 4.9 corners per game, while its stingy defense, captained by senior goalkeeper Esteban Gonzalez, has posted four shutouts and held opponents to 0.70 goals, 8.9 shots, and 3.7 shots on goal per match thus far. The ThunderWolves have allowed a goal in their last five matches, including a pair in a 4-2 win over South Dakota Mines (5-3-3, 1-2-1 RMAC) last Sunday (Oct. 4).

All seven ThunderWolves to score this season have at least two goals and are paced by fifth-year senior Nick Cenek's six goals and three assists for 15 points. Junior João Lutz, sophomore Juan Pablo Orozco Soto, and sophomore Jamal Bynum have three goals each. In goal, Gonzalez owns an 81.1 percent save percentage with 30 saves and seven goals conceded against 89 shots.

Looking Ahead
Fort Lewis has its last remaining RMAC road trip and just one match on deck next week as the Skyhawks will head to Golden, Colo., for a match against Colorado School of Mines (0-9-2, 0-3 RMAC) at Stermole Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
