Skyhawks Semifinal Stunner
Fort Lewis overcame its toughest test of the season, and toughest opponent in recent years, as the Skyhawks defeated second-seeded and No. 2 nationally ranked Colorado State University Pueblo (13-1-3), 2-1 in overtime last Wednesday night (Nov. 4). In addition to advancing to the RMAC Championship match, Fort Lewis got a big boost to its NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings as they handed the previously unbeaten ThunderWolves their first loss of 2026 on their home pitch.

CSU Pueblo took the early 1-0 lead on a goal from Silvio Termini in the 35th minute. After halftime, Fort Lewis drew a hard foul and a second yellow card from a Pack defender in the 60th minute. FLC earned a free kick in a dangerous area, and the Pack defender was shown red, forcing CSUP to play with 10 men the rest of the way. Noam Maggartou scored his first career goal on the ensuing free kick with a header back across the box at the far post. Later in overtime, Fabrizio Aguilera sent a dangerous free kick into the area, and after two failed clears by the ThunderWolves, Francisco Pinto took a shot on the volley to score the walk-off game-winner and his sixth goal of the season.

Last Time Against the Rangers
Back on Oct. 25, Regis came into Durango, then ranked No. 17 nationally, and handed Fort Lewis a 3-1 loss on a soft, muddy Dirks Field. The win marked the second straight for the Rangers in the series between the two sides, after RU fired off 16 shots with 10 shots on goal. FLC managed just six shots and one shot on goal, and both sides took three corners. The Skyhawks also played down with 10 men through the final 16 minutes.

Johan Murllo put Regis ahead in the 32nd minute with his first goal of the season, and Francisco Ruiz poured in his first goal as well later in the 51st minute. Fabrizio Aguilera, on a free kick from Pinto and after an initial shot from Jahan Sabzalian, managed to find a clean-up goal to break the shutout in the 69th minute. Liam Corr cemented the match for the Rangers moments later, scoring his fifth of the campaign in the 71st minute.

Postseason History with the Rangers
Saturday's title match will mark the 11th postseason meeting all-time between the two sides, with all 10 previous matches occurring within the RMAC Championships. Fort Lewis leads Regis 7-2-1 overall, primarily by way of a 5-2-1 advantage in the semifinal round. The Skyhawks and Rangers have met once in both the quarterfinal and championship matches.

Last time the two teams met in the postseason was the 2024 RMAC Semifinal on the Regis' home turf, where Fort Lewis walked away with a controlling 3-0 shutout with all three goals coming in the first 28 minutes of action. The last, and only, time the two met in the RMAC Championship was in 2001, in which Fort Lewis captured its fifth of now 10 RMAC Tournament titles with a 5-3 victory over the Rangers.

Regis in the Semifinal
It was a nail-biting finish for Regis last Wednesday, as the 2026 RMAC Regular Season Champions fought to a 0-0 draw with Westminster University (8-7-5) before advancing on penalty kicks, 5-4, after the Griffins missed their fifth attempt from the spot. Despite the scoreless result, the match was all offense in favor of the Rangers, who outshot the Griffins 21-to-7 overall and 7-to-3 in shots on goal, while also leading in corners 8-to-5 and fouls 9-to-12. Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Jennings made three saves in the match. Junior forward Joakim Gunnar led all players with six shots and three shots on goal.

Scouting the Rangers
Regis, much like Fort Lewis' last opponent, is a team that prides itself on its defensive ability, where the Rangers rank 10th in Division II with a team goals-against average of 0.66. Its defensive success allows its offense to flow freely, where RU ranks fourth nationally with 18.33 shots per game, second in corners per game with 7.22, and 171st in shot accuracy with a 39.7 percent shots-on-goal percentage.

The Rangers, guided by sixth-year head coach and 2026 RMAC Coach of the Year Taylor Diem, boast some of the best talents in the league, including Player of the Year Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar, who leads RU with 11 goals and 1 assist for 23 points, Defensive Player of the Year Abram Wilson, who has poured in two goals and two assists for six points, and Goalkeeper of the Year Zach Jennings, who carries a 0.67 goals-against average and 77.4 percent save-percentage with 12 goals allowed ad 41 saves against 126 shots. Senior forward Liam Corr was also named to the All-RMAC First Team with five goals and six assists for 16 points, and junior midfielder Jan Grillitsch picked up All-RMAC Second-Team honors with another three goals and six assists for 12 points.

Looking Ahead
A win on Saturday would provide either side with the RMAC's automatic qualifier and a ticket to the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship, set to begin with first-round matches on Friday, Nov. 13. Otherwise, both teams would await their fate with the NCAA Selection Show, which will announce the official 40-team field for the national tournament, on Monday, Nov. 9, at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Standard Time on NCAA.com.
