Mavericks rout Skyhawks in Grand Junction, 100-76

Fort Lewis drops third-straight road game

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University (16-7, 12-3 RMAC) caught fire early in front of its home crowd, never trailing from the opening tip while firing off at a lethal 61.1 percent from the field to handle Fort Lewis College (14-8, 12-3 RMAC), 100-76, in a battle between two of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's best on Thursday night in Brownson Arena.

Colorado Mesa would not be denied, shooting a season-best 60 percent (18-30) from the three-point line while never allowing Fort Lewis to come any closer than 11 points since the eight-minute mark in the first half. CMU's 18 triples are its most in a game in two years since thrice hitting the same mark back in 2023-24. Five Mavericks finished in double figures, paced by a pair of 25-point and 23-point outings from Ty Allred and Ben Henderson, respectively. Allred was a lights-out 5-of-10 from deep with six assists, six rebounds, three blocks, and a steal, while Henderson dished out eight of CMU's 25 total assists.

Fort Lewis could not find a groove in the front court, shooting 41.3 percent (26-63) from the field with a respectable 36.8 percent (7-19) clip from deep. While the Skyhawks managed to win the paint and outscore the Mavericks 32-24 in the post, Colorado Mesa won off the glass 37-34 in rebounds, turned it over just 14 times, and blocked 10 shots, good to tie the 20th-most in a Division II game this year. In addition, CMU shot 80 percent (16-20) at the free-throw line against a 56.7 percent (17-30) night for FLC.

Jaxon Smith had a team-high 21 points on 5-of-13 shooting with an 8-for-8 mark at the line for his sixth 20-point performance of the season. Chuol Deng supplied another 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Stewart Erhart finished with 12 points and led the roster with five assists and three steals.
