2/25/2026 2:36:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College men's basketball team has checked in at No. 9 in the latest NCAA regional rankings, outlining the 80 possible teams currently under consideration for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament.

The first one-through-ten rankings of the year provide insight into the 80 teams under consideration for the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament beginning with regionals on Friday, Mar. 17.  Only the top eight teams from each region will qualify for the tournament, setting the stage for a 64-team tournament.

A final set of regional rankings will be released next Wednesday, Mar. 4, before the final 64-selections will be announced during the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Selection Show that starts at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 8. In the south-central region, the winners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Lone Star Conference Tournaments will receive automatic bids, leaving six at-large selections up for grabs.

In ninth place, the Skyhawks men's basketball would be the first team out of the tournament, barring a postseason tournament championship. In addition to two regular-season games left on the schedule, supplying plenty of room for shake-ups, both sixth-place Black Hills State University and eighth-place Colorado Mesa University are set to face off in the regular-season finale. Fort Lewis, Black Hills State, and Colorado Mesa have all clinched first-round home games in the 2026 RMAC Tournament as well.
