Skyhawks snap four-game skid with 80-65 RMAC win over Chadron State

Fort Lewis ties season-high with 11 three-pointers

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis men's basketball improved to 15-9 overall and 13-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Thursday night in Whalen Gymnasium to snap a four-game losing streak after knocking down the open bucket, shooting 45 percent from the floor, matching its season-high with 11 made three-pointers, and never trailing in the contest to top Chadron State College 80-65 in front of a boisterous crowd on pink night.

The Eagles (6-19, 4-13 RMAC) matched the Skyhawks with 11 treys in 41 attempts (26.8 percent) and went a near-perfect 16-for-17 (94.1 percent) at the free-throw line, but managed just a 32.8 percent (19-58) shooting percentage from the field overall. Fort Lewis also dominated off the glass for a 41-33 edge in rebounds thanks to a career-high 10 boards from Massal Diouf, and secured 14 points off 11 steals in 16 forced turnovers. Diouf brought down four of the Skyhawks 10 offensive rebounds for 11 second-chance points.

Stewart Erhart erupted in his return to the rim, scoring a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 (75 percent) shooting, including a lethal 4-of-6 clip from the three-point line. Jaxon Smith poured in another 16 points with a 3-of-7 mark from deep while going 3-of-4 at the free throw line. Erhart and Jaxon tied for a team-high three assists. Chuol Deng and Cassius Carmichael were the final Skyhawks in double figures with 13 points and 12 points, respectively, with the pair grabbing an identical six rebounds and two assists, while Carmichael led all players with four steals.

Chadron State's Luka Djurovic had one of the best individual performances in the game, leading the Eagles with a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double: his second of the season. Isaiah Randolph matched Djurovic for the team-high with 13 points, primarily through an 8-for-8 night at the charity stripe. Zach Smith and Mack Keighran had 11 points each.
