Skyhawks softball to open RMAC play with road series at MSU Denver

2/20/2026 10:00:00 AM

DURANGO, Colo. – Following an ambitious non-conference gauntlet and an extra week's rest, the Fort Lewis softball team (1-9) is returning to the diamond to begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a four-game series on the road at Metropolitan State University of Denver (5-3) this Saturday and Sunday.

Challenging Start
The Skyhawks completed a tough ten-game non-conference schedule with five games each against the West, Central, and South-Central regions' best, split between the Concordia Kickoff Classic over in Irvine, Calif., and the UCO-OC Classic next door in Edmond, Okla. Four of Fort Lewis' ten opponents were featured on the preseason National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 Poll, which set the stage for the Skyhawks 3-2 victory in eight innings over then No. 14-ranked Cal State San Marcos (12-1). Since handing the Cougars their lone blemish thus far, CSUSM has since risen to No. 2 in the latest national rankings.

Bright Spots
Senior right-handed pitcher Hailie Mann went the distance in Fort Lewis' lone win, surrendering just two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts to her name. Mann sits just 0.13 points outside of the league's top-10 in earned run average, carrying a 3.55 mark through 21.2 innings pitched. 2025 All-RMAC Honorable Mention outfielder Makenna Milliman has settled in, recording six singles and a double for a pair of runs scored and runs batted in (RBI). Freshman Carmen Alexander found a groove in Oklahoma, notching a pair of doubles and her first career home run, a three-RBI shot that cleared the left-field fence with ease, for six hits, two runs, and a team-high five RBIs. Sophomore Alyssa Fockler leads all players with eight hits and five runs scored, while Izzy Cueva, having spent time in the circle and at first and third base, has matched Alexander with six total hits, including one double, while adding one run scored and two RBIs.
