Skyhawks meet ThunderWolves in Pueblo Saturday and Sunday

DURANGO, Colo. – Looking to build on last week's success at home, the Fort Lewis College softball team (3-23, 2-14 RMAC) is headed East for the Rawlings Softball Complex to take on the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves (15-11, 11-5 RMAC) in a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 21-22, with Noon and 11 a.m. start times, respectively.
 
First Conference Wins
Hailie Mann (2-6) powered the Skyhawks to their second win of the season and first in conference play with a masterful 10-inning shutout in the circle. Mann tossed 104 strikes in 147 pitches to scatter 10 hits and two walks against four strikeouts. Carmen Alexander was the hero of the game, launching the walk-off sacrifice fly to left field. Chloe Padilla (1-10) stepped in for the win in game two, backed by nine runs on 10 hits, seven walks, and eight runs batted in (RBI). Trisa Hoobler had a pair of doubles for two RBIs, Alexander had a home run and a single for one run and two RBIs, and Alex Tenorio and Skyler Dietz scored two runs each.
 
Upward Trends
Fort Lewis seemingly found its bats in its last series, putting up no fewer than seven hits in any game with 38 hits in total, including nine doubles and a pair of homers, for a .305 team average against its .245 mark for the season. Additionally, the Skyhawks' 21 runs scored are their most in a series this season. Hoobler has played a strong role in Fort Lewis' run production, with the junior ranking second in the RMAC and 27th in DII with seven sacrifice bunts against her .242 average thus far. On the flip side, Tenorio, who leads the team with 16 runs scored, has returned to her old ways as the redshirt senior is tied for the RMAC-lead, and 25th-most in DII, with 10 doubles among her 23 hits. In the circle, Padilla is tied for the fourth-most strikeouts (43) in the conference and leads all pitchers with 17 batters struck out looking.

ThunderWolves in the Early Going
CSU Pueblo is coming off back-to-back road trips with a 4-0 sweep of Regis University (5-17, 4-12 RMAC) before settling for a 2-2 series split at Adams State University (6-20, 5-11 RMAC). Through 26 games, the ThunderWolves rank third in batting with a .344 team average, first in pitching with a 2.50 team earned run average (ERA), and tenth in fielding with a .944 fielding percentage.
 
The Pack has split or won all four conference series thus far against opponents with under-.500 records, but most notably, picked up a pair of signature non-conference wins in the preseason, 4-3 in 10 innings over Biola University (18-15, 11-4 PacWest) on Jan. 31, and 5-4 in eight innings over the University of Texas A&M–Kingsville (15-11, 10-6 LSC) on Feb. 6.
 
Three-time All-RMAC First-Team selection Caitlyn Cole is off to another stellar year for the ThunderWolves, as the senior utility player ranks among the top 10 in the RMAC in most offensive categories with 42 hits, 33 runs, 10 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 15 RBIs, 17 stolen bases in 19 attempts, and has struck out just six times. Behind Cole, eight other members of The Pack carry a +.300 average. In the circle, senior McKenna James (7-7) leads the RMAC with a 1.56 ERA on 70 hits and 18 earned runs in 80.2 innings of work.

Looking Ahead
