Skyhawks meet No. 17 Cougars on the road in Lakewood

3/7/2026 12:00:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis Skyhawks softball (1-17, 0-8 RMAC) continues its 2026 campaign this Sunday and Monday, Mar. 8-9, with another four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series against Colorado Christian University (18-2, 8-0 RMAC) on the road at All-Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. Doubleheaders are slated to start at noon on Sunday and 11 a.m. on Monday.

2026 Home Opener
Fort Lewis made its home debut in Durango last weekend, but suffered a four-game sweep at the hands of Colorado School of Mines (10-8, 6-2 RMAC). The Skyhawks racked up 27 hits to score 10 runs, including seven extra-base hits. Alejandra Medina caught fire in game two of the series, going 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs to become the first Skyhawk since 2024 with a multi-homer game. FLC lost each of the first three games by two, one, and three runs, respectively, even pushing the Orediggers to eight innings in game two. Chloe Padilla (0-8) tossed 14.0 innings on the weekend, recording eight strikeouts against eight walks with 15 hits allowed. On the offensive side, freshman Izzy Cueva led all Skyhawks with five hits in the series, followed by Alyssa Fockler, Alejandra Medina, and Trista Hoobler with four hits each.

Early Season Trends
The Skyhawks reside in the middle of the RMAC in fielding, boasting a .960 fielding percentage with 20 errors recorded in 503 total chances. Eight different Skyhawks have maintained a perfect fielding percentage, led by Fockler with 70 putouts and seven assists with four runners caught stealing. That efficient defense has helped Fort Lewis in tight contests, with FLC suffering seven of its losses by three runs or fewer. Offensively, however, the team hasn't been able to break through in key moments, carrying an 11th-best .229 team batting average with 110 hits and 25 extra-base hits in 18 games. In RMAC games alone, the Skyhawks have left 56 runners on base.
