Men’s soccer draws votes in United Soccer Coaches national poll

DURANGO, Colo. – Following two wins in the Lone Star State, the Fort Lewis men's soccer team has received votes in the first regular-season United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The Skyhawks (2-0) got off to a hot start, downing Lubbock Christian University (1-1) on the road by a final score of 2-1 thanks to a brace from Simão Agostinho off the bench in his Fort Lewis debut. Agostinho secured a brace once again the following Saturday as the Skyhawks handled West Texas A&M University (1-1) 7-0 on the Buffaloes' home pitch. Agostinho was rewarded for his efforts and was tabbed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Week One Offensive Player of the Week earlier today.

Fort Lewis is one of 39 teams unbeaten and without a draw through the opening weekend of the season, and one of four from the RMAC alongside the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (2-0), Regis University (1-0), and Colorado State University Pueblo (2-0). In addition, the Skyhawks rank third in total goals (nine), third in total points (25), third in scoring offense (3.0), third in goal differential (+8), fourth in total assists (seven), fourth in points per game (12.5), sixth in assists per game (3.5), and eighth in shot accuracy (66.7 percent) across all of NCAA Division II.

UCCS remains the highest RMAC team on the poll, moving up to No. 12 after a 2-0 start to the season. Regis shot up to No. 20 after securing a 1-0 victory over previously No. 3-ranked Fort Hays State University (1-1) in its only match of the season thus far.

The Skyhawks are scheduled to face St. Edward's University (1-0-1) at home under the lights of Dirks Field this Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. Fort Lewis will then head east to Alamosa, Colo., where they will host now No. 14-ranked Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. on the ASU Lacrosse & Soccer Field.
