Penney electrified the Skyhawks defense and quickly became a leader on the gridiron, starting in all 11 games for Fort Lewis... led the Skyhawks, the RMAC, and ranked 5th in NCAA Division II in both total tackles (122 tackles) and tackles per game (11.1 tackles/game)... finished just outside of the program's top-10 for single-season tackles... also led the RMAC and tied for the 3rd-most solo tackles in DII with 75... ranked third in the league with 47 assisted tackles... ranked 22nd in the conference in tackles for loss (seven solo, two assisted) with 8.0 tackles for a combined loss of 25 yards... registered one sack for a loss of six yards... led the Skyhawks and tied for the RMAC lead with three forced fumbles... recovered one fumble and forced four quarterback hurries... reached 202 career tackles (141 solo, 61 assisted) in just two seasons and 22 games... already ranks 10th all-time in program history for solo tackles... had a career-performance against Black Hills State (Sept. 21), recording 18 tackles (11 solo, seven assisted), two tackles for a combined six yards lost, and two quarterback hurries... his 18 tackles against the Yellow Jackets is tied for the fourth-most in a single game in program history... also had a 17-tackle (five solo, 12 assisted) performance against Arizona Christian (Sept. 14), leading to his first-ever RMAC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 16) award... recorded 10+ tackles seven times and 15+ tackles on two occasions... Penney's efforts led to a trio of postseason honors, including Second-Team All-RMAC, First-Team All-National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter, and NFFCC Academic All-Colorado Honorable Mention. 

2023 (Redshirt Freshman)
Had an outstanding redshirt freshman season making six starts across his 11 games played for the Skyhawks... the mike linebacker led all Skyhawks and ranked eighth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with 80.0 tackles including 66.0 solo and 14.0 assisted which also ranked second and 25th, respectively... registered the second-most total tackles by any Skyhawk since 2018 and the second-most solo tackles since 2013... twice recorded a career-high with 11.0 total tackles against CSU Pueblo (Sep. 30) and #1/1 Colorado School of Mines (Nov. 11)... made a career-high 11.0 solo tackles against the top-ranked Orediggers (Nov. 11)... recorded six or more tackles in nine games... also made 5.0 tackles for a combined 12 yards of loss... made a tackle for loss in five separate contests.

2022 (Freshman)
Did not make any appearances for the Skyhawks... utilized a redshirt season to retain a season of eligibility. 

Prior to FLC: Played Football and Basketball at Spanish Springs High School... named 1st-Team All-Region as a linebacker and 2nd-Team All-Region as an athlete... earned 1st-Team All-Region and Defensive Player of the Year honors in basketball... holds the school and state record for most charges drawn in a single season in basketball. 

Personal: Son to Katie & Kyle Penney... has two brothers, Nate, who is a member of the Fort Lewis men's basketball team, and Jaden... pursuing his degree in Biology.
