COLORADO SPRINGS – No. 23 Fort Lewis College placed five players on the Daktronics All-Central Region team, regional chair Sarah Meier announced today.

Four Skyhawks — Jamie Cunningham, Thomas Hoang, Fabian Kling and Kyle Wood — earned first team honors. Keane Hamilton was named to the second team.

Hoang, a 5-foot-11 junior midfielder from Liberty High School in Colorado Springs, earned All-Central Region honors for the first time in his career. Earlier this season, he was named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference all-tournament team, the All-RMAC third team and was picked as the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 5, 2010. He started 16 of the 18 games he appeared in, leading the Skyhawks in total points (19), assists (nine) and shots (70).

“Thomas has had a great year statistically and we are looking forward to even more in his senior year,” said second-year head coach Oige Kennedy.

Cunningham, a 6-foot-2 senior defender from Pinnacle High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., earned first team All-Central Region honors for the second year in a row. Previously this season, he was named to the All-RMAC first team. Cunningham was a second team Daktronics All-American in 2009, a member of the RMAC All-Tournament team four times from 2007-10 and a four-time RMAC All-Academic award winner. He also was chosen by league coaches as the 2010 RMAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was a member of the 2008 and 2010 Preseason All-RMAC teams.

Cunningham amassed nine points on four goals and one assist in 2010.

“Jamie has been a rock these last two years and has been a great leader on and off the field,” said Kennedy. “He will be a big miss for us next season.”

Kling, a 6-foot-3 junior defender from Holblein High School in Augsburg, Germany, was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region first team for the first time, after being named to the Daktronics All-Central Region second team a year ago. Earlier this fall, he was named to the All-RMAC second team and the RMAC All-Tournament team. In 2009, he was named to the NSCAA All-Central Region first team and the All-NCAA Division II Final Four Team. As a freshman in 2008, he earned first team All-RMAC honors. He has been a Preseason All-RMAC choice in 2009 and 2010.

Kling led the Skyhawks in goal scoring (eight) in 2010 and ranked second in total points (16).

“What more can you say about a guy who played center back but yet finished the season as our top goal scorer,” said Kennedy. “He has been one of our better performers this year and we expect a lot from him next year when he becomes the captain of this program.”

Wood, a 5-foot-11 senior midfielder from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, N.M., also earned first team Daktronics All-Central Region accolades for the first time, after being named to the second team a year ago. He was a first team All-RMAC pick in 2008 and 2010, a Preseason All-RMAC selection in 2009 and 2010, the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the 2009 NCAA Division II Final Four, RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll in 2008, Most Valuable Player of the 2008 RMAC tournament and RMAC All-Tournament in 2008 and 2010.

Wood had eight points on two goals and four assists this season.

“Kyle is going to be a huge loss to our program,” said Kennedy. “He has been super this year and played in and started all 20 games. I think played all of the minutes too. He is one of the most talented players that we have had at the program, and is up there with the very best when it comes to entertainment value with the ball.”

Hamilton, a 5-foot-8 senior midfielder from Big Sky High School in Missoula, Mont., was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region second team. Earlier this year, he was named to the All-RMAC third team.

Hamilton scored 11 points on four goals and three assists in 2010.

“Keano has been a joy to work with over the last four years,” said Kennedy. “He was a major contributor to the national championship win and we will me his bull-dog mentality in the midfield next year.”

The Skyhawks finished the 2010 season with records of 11-5-4 overall and 10-2-2 in the RMAC. Fort Lewis finished runner-up to Colorado Mines in both the regular season and league tournament.
