COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College's Kyle Woodson was named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's soccer first team, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Eric Danner announced today.

A trio of Skyhawks — Yannis Becker, Casey Dean and Artur Piperkov — net second team accolades, while Daniel Wilson earned All-RMAC third team recognition.

Woodson, a 5-foot-10, 165-lb. senior from Liberty High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., has scored two goals in his only season in a Skyhawk uniform. Earlier this month, he was named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.

“I couldn't be prouder of Kyle,” said fourth-year FLC head coach Oige Kennedy. “He's been superb. He can be proud of his time at Fort Lewis. We wish him the best of luck with whatever he decides to do.”

Woodson redshirted on FLC's 2011 NCAA Division II national championship squad after arriving in Durango via NCAA Division I Howard University. He also played at Yavapai College in 2008 and 2009. As a freshman, he helped Yavapai to the 2008 NJCAA national championship. He received the Roughrider Award as a sophomore.

Becker, a 6-foot, 165-lb. freshman midfielder from Gymnasium Obervieland in Sittensen, Germany, leads the Skyhawks in scoring in 2012 with 21 points (seven goals, seven assists). He was named as RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18.

“I thought Yannis was a real candidate for RMAC Freshman of the Year,” said Kennedy. “He's been a real impact player for us and as his time goes on here at Fort Lewis, he's only going to get better. He's going to be a top-flight player in the country for many years.”

Dean, a 5-foot-10, 155-lb. junior forward from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, N.M., has amassed 11 points (four goals, three assists) in 2012. A team captain, Dean was previously named to the Preseason All-RMAC squad in 2012. He ranks 38th in FLC history with 26 total points (six goals, 14 assists) during his three-year career.

“Casey had a tough season in terms of begin able to get the ball in the net,” said Kennedy. “But he's been the heart and soul of the team. He definitely deserves that recognition.”

Piperkov, a 5-foot-9, 160-lb. sophomore midfielder/defender from SZ Geirzstraphe in Bremen, Germany, has notched 10 points (two goals, six assists) in 2012 — a season that has seen him move primarily from outside defender to outside midfielder. The two-year starter has net 18 total points (three goals, 12 assists) during his career.

“Artur has had a tough year, but he's come up with big assists in games and given us a lot of quality from the right side of the field,” said Kennedy. “In the years to come we hope he continues to improve and get better.”

Wilson, a 5-foot-9, 155-lb. midfielder from Smith High School in Gilbert, Ariz., has made the most of his senior season. He only appeared in three games during FLC's 2011 NCAA championship run and redshirted in 2010, but has earned a starting nod in the central midfield throughout most of 2012 and has recorded one assist during the season. He was previously named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll in 2011.

“I'm proud of Dan,” said Kennedy. “He's battled injuries and he's always come out stronger. This year was a reward for all the hard work he's had to do. Like the battery of a watch, he's in there ticking away in the midfield and making things happen.”

Wilson played two seasons at Scottsdale Community College in 2008 and 2009 before arriving in Durango.

Fort Lewis finished the 2012 season with a 3-2 loss in the quarterfinals of the RMAC playoffs today. The Skyhawks (9-8-2, 6-6-2) qualified for the league playoffs for the 17th straight season and are the only team in the conference's 17-year men's soccer history to do so.
